Games that made you go WOW (graphically)

Still can't think of the game i was on about earlier!!

Got it: Incoming!

I loved that game. Wish i had a copy of it!! Would it work on Vista though?

OMG - This game came with my first ever pc. Compaq 266mhz P2. Incoming and some motobike game.

I thought the graphics were mind blowing

Other than that, tomb raider 1 and fifa on the ps1. Were awsome after playing fifa on the mega drive for ages :p

Anyone else impressed by operation flashpoint 1? I remember getting a gefore 2 and being able to turn the graphics up, probably wasn't the best graphically but you could see for miles and go anywhere. Fallout 3 was amazing in the same way!

i have been trying to remember the first wow moment in gaming, i played doom, wolfenstein 3d, quake and half life when they all first came out but none of them made me go wow like operation flashpoint did when i got into the air and saw the landscape.

was truely breathtaking, it was like looking at a real forest and everything so vast. obviously once you got onto the ground again the graphics werent great but still remember that moment :)

Anyone else miss sequels also being major graphical overhauls ? These days sequels come out 1 or 2 years later and look near enough the same (check out the BioShock 2 footage for example).

in no particular order i would say

Far cry , oblivion, F.E.A.R, Crysis, Empire:TW, Bioshock (in places)

I switched from PC to PS3 ages ago and I'm pleased to see the likes of Farcry and HL2 are still graphically superior.
I was expecting to see a range of titles I wouldn't recognise.

My good old 8800GT OC delivered back in the day :)

What do you guys need all this uber hardware for!! 3 x gfx cards etc...!! Crazy.

Because some people like to willy wave

Half Life 2 was just like some sort of gaming orgasm when I played it for the first time. It still looks stunning today (in my opinion, obviously...) but when I played it way back when, it was just unbelievably good. My years of waiting paid off, the graphics were a very attractive bonus.

Project Gotham Racing 3 also stunned my socks off. Walking through my garage full of my favourite cars, with the garage and the cars genuinely looking life like (to me, on release day) was just like " :eek  Next gen IS here..." No other games have had such an effect on me since. :p

Oh yeah, Sonic 3D on the Megadrive. ;) Even though the game was pretty lame looking back, my jaw was open from the moment I put the cartridge in for the first time, right up until I completed it. I still can't believe they managed to get something like that from the 16-bit Megadrive, but damn I was good.

Its not as impressive as some, but Assassins Creed when you climb up one of the tower viewpoints and look out over the cities.

The original "homeworld" did it for me. I can still remember seeing the mothership for the first time in the tuition section and being able to look around it using the mouse. Astonishing for me at the time.:)

Agreed, climbing up to the top of the cathedral is one of the most impressive moments this generation imo.

Lets just hope AC2 is equally impressive.

I am currently downloading from Steam for my PC as I originally played on the 360. Cant wait to see it with 32x AA ;D

I used to own a Duron 1.1Ghz, 256Mb ram, Geforce 2Mx. The game that made me upgrade was Age of Empires 3. I was completely blown away especially by the water effects. Two days later I purchased oblivion and my jaw dropped further. I think Bioshock was one of the best looking games of its generation, not for one off spectacular events like the sunset in Crysis or the Cathedral in Assassins Creed, but because it felt very polished, everything looked good however not particularly amazing. Sadly enough it was Godfather 2 that made me realize my PC needed upgrading again.

On Console it would be my first ever game i bought for the playstation when it was first released. I came from a megadrive to the playstation and TEKKEN was the first game i played, when i loaded it up teh jaw literally hit the floor.

On PC theres quite a few, in no particular order,

OP Flashpoint
Dead Space
Oblivion
GTA4
STALKER
Farcry 2

pc:

day of the tentacle
UT1
halflife 1 + 2
cod4 - the sniper mission just had me amazed

console:

mario bros 3
mario kart
sonic 2
goldeneye
mario 64
zelda: ocrina of time
