I've so far seen HL2 and Far Cry support it, but i'm a bit uknown as to how it's implemented. I know bloom is just one of may effects of HDR, but to get HDR both games need a downloadable mod right?

If HDR is only available through a mod, are other mods being made to suit other games now?

What other games are available that support this feature?

I recently saw a picture of Tiberian Sun using HDR/Bloom, any ideas as to how this is done in photoshop?

Think it was around before HDR as an earlier attempt at nice lighting effects rather than a lesser substitute for HDR.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) is an effect that, as well as boosting/bleeding out highlights, can also adjust lowlights. An effect that dynamically varies the exposure of the whole scene. That's how I understand it.

Bloom is a cheap imitation that (i think) only blows out the highlights in a cruder (quicker perfomance wise) fashion.

Bloom is a simpler bolt on DirectX effect (i think) that be implemented without too much fuss. Whether it actually looks any good or is appropriate is another matter.

HDR can get a lot more complex and is more specific to a game engine. Therefore is is not a simple task to bolt it on and for it to work effectively.

This is the impression I get from the voices in my head.

Both fully patched games of Farcry or HL2 support HDR. Only HL2:Episode 1 has HDR when you play, along side a handful of CS:S maps. Bloom is NOT HDR, they are different. HL2 does have a bloom mod which does not compare to properly implemented HDR.

Hopes this helps.:)

Cheers all, especially NutritioN. :)

So, that screenie is not real gameplay then i take? Can't find a mod anywhere. :(

WoW, Guild Wars, Spinter Cell: CT, HL2, Fable, X3 The Reunion and Chronicles of Riddick all use Bloom as well.

I think TRON might as well, not sure though
