PC - Games that will last the test of time..

i think a lot of games we all think were the best or amazing are mainly rose tinted and when you actually go back to them they are terrible compared to modern stuff. only games to buck this are mainly games like marioworld and simple games.

rosetinted glasses wise cod 1 and cod uo and dayz the mod. at the time dayz the mod was just pure brilliance.if only they could have kept it going.

Hmm. Tough to narrow it down.

I'd say the following:

Command and Conquer and Command and Conquer: Red Alert Remastered
Warcraft 3 Remastered
World of Warcraft
Supreme Commander FA

Yeh, these ain't modern games!

I think @Neil79 needs to rename the title of this thread! :p

Dungeon Master on the Amiga - first time I ever gamed through the night
Call of Duty 2
Far Cry
Assassins Creed Black Flag and Origins
Age of Empires 2
Civ 4
Richard Burns Rally - trying to finish online stages in one piece, sweating
Everquest
And recently, I've been blown away with Elden Ring. I'd played Demon Souls then the Dark Souls series and really didn't get on with them. But Elden Ring is so much more - it's huge, it looks amazing and it's so full of surprises. Find a tough boss, go off and gain a few levels, some back and try again.

Depends what we define as "modern". If we agree on the last 10 years ie. since 2015 then I'd throw in The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 ( despite it's awful beginning ), Elden Ring, Stardew Valley and Baldur's Gate 3. If we're allowed to go back to 2010 then it's a bit easier, as some games have legendary status already in their respective genres eg. Skyrim, Minecraft, Rocksteady Batman Trilogy, Civilisation 5 ( with DLC ).

And finally, I'm going to throw in some console based games ... one or two of which have gone multiplatform, including PC : Mario Kart 8, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom / Breath of the Wild, The Last of Us Part 1, Bloodborne, God of War 2018, Red dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto 5.

Deus Ex is still amazing to play and that is 25 years old now

Kingdom Come 2
wouldn't you say it's too soon to rate it this highly? i am sure it's great, i loved every second of the first, but perhaps it's worth letting your thoughts simmer for a bit? i feel give it a year or 2 and see if you come back to it, and how you feel the second go, before saying it's a game that will last the test of time.

Concord seems evergreen, I really should check that out.

made me lol :D

Return of the Obra Dinn
superb choice. why haven't other companies tried to replicate this game i will never know.

perhaps the issue is that these games that stand the test of time, are more just coming to us at the right time in our lives? which is most likely to be around teen age where we are smart enough to play these games properly and free enough to lose unlimited hours in them?

Star Citizen. Because so much time will have elapsed before it is finished, that it should qualify as testing time by default.

FTL I would say will stand as one of the best products of Kickstarter and will be seen as one of the high points in that sphere.
