Any one else read this magazine? I just picked up the newest issue in my local news agents and i caught a glimpse of this quote, "PS3's main cell processor is very powerful, in fact we get a 20 times speed increase over pc's"! This was in an article about 'Folding @ Home' but is this actually true or some one from Sony talking out of there rear end?

I dont want to start a flame war so please dont hate on me for asking ;)

I believe it is true but simply because of the parallel design of the PS3 cell cpu. And of course it depends on what PC CPU they are using for comparison.

That doesn't mean the PS3 cpu is more powerful then a cpu though. The same thing can be said for GPUs. A X1950XT would be around 10 times faster then a cpu when running F@H as well.

In this one scenario, the cell is indeed a big performer. It's a nice processor but as said, graphics cards are even further ahead. Parallelism (spelling ***) is something graphics cards have long excelled at and their FP performance is huge too.
