Games to get over Mass Effect withdrawal...

Hello. :)

I've just completed the Mass Effect series over the past three weeks and absolutely loved them. But, now I feel there's a little void in my life! :D

Could anyone recommend a series which is similar? I like a story-driven element that can be determined by the player.

I did try Borderlands but didn't like that so much. Last night, I did download the first two Witcher games. Do you think they're the next best thing, or is there something else? :)

The Witcher is pretty similar, and probably the closest you'll get - I also enjoyed the original Dragon Age (and the expansion pack), which is built on incredibly similar lines to ME. I've not tried DA2.

TL;DR - Play the Dragon Age games :)

Thanks. This series is now in my 'to do' list. :)

Alpha Protocol is fantastic. Not the most polished gunplay (would recommend playing stealth) but in terms of story, player choice, RPG elements... it's one of the best. You could get it really cheap on Humble Store and Steam recently, probably gone back to full price now though.

I'd never heard of that before. Also added this to my Steam wishlist for when the price drops. Looks quite promising.

OP, hopefully the next ME title could be out within the next year or two - and already we have been shown that exploration and use of a new Mako will play a huge role.

I don't think anything can fill the void in the same way - especially not in that space opera style.

I think I'm not going to play it until 2025 until Mass Effect 6 has been done! I like to binge on them, and think I get much more engrossed in the story that way. Hopefully I won't die in 2024 (I would be so annoyed!) :p

Are you living in a time warp?

How the hell could you possibly complete those games within 3 weeks? Are you just walking right through the main quests on easy or something?

I hated ME, and DA, but I can thoroughly recommend The Witcher series....although to hit the nail right on the head, I would just start with The Witcher 2 and take it from there. That will set u up nicely for The Witcher 3, which is quite literally the most epic, stunning, amaziong RPG ever created.

Well, I think it might have something to do with my 10 hours 'revision time' per day being used to play them. Oops.

And, no...I did loads of side quests. Everyone lived in ME2. Well, apart from Mordin but I didn't like him anyway. :D

eh wot!?

You are still at school and gaming for 70 hours per week instead of revising for exams?

It aint an easy world out there mate and it is only getting worse.

Since you don't sound like you are going to bloom in academia, forget the 'qualifications', and go and get a trade, quick, whilst you still can. I would give that advice even to most academically driven students. Unless you have the ambition, drive, and focus to go to Uni and study something highly targeted (i.e. boring as fk) at what is in genuine demand in the jobs market, getting a good trade wins 9/10 times over a ten a penny Uni degree when it comes to earning a crust.

LOL. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you should never assume on an internet forum.

FYI, I am 33 and self employed. I am doing my degree with The Open University and am in my final year. On course for a 2:1, and starting teacher training in 2016.

So....er, there! :D

Just an update...

Been playing The Witcher this evening and it's quite enjoyable. I know some said to bypass it, but I like to get the complete stories to these games.

Same, now playing W1 and realised why I never played it. I absolutely hate the controls. Does W2 and W3 get any better?

Yeah, I'm finding them a bit fiddly. I mainly did ME with an xbox controller and it worked well. Doesn't translate quite so well to W1 so I'm having to use mouse/keyboard.

I like playing on my couch, sitting back and chilling out.

ETA: Thanks for the further suggestions people gave. :)

LOL, okay so you all like Mordin. I must have missed something. I just found him annoying.

I promise to try again and pay more attention to him next time! :D
