games with a good story

ok ive got my new pc coming this week and im pretty new to pc gaming, i enjoy rpgs and most games with a good story, though i like open games they tend to lack depth to the story. with this in mind is there any games you can recommend?
(played oblivion on xbox)

Knights of the old Republic, the first one especially, I never really managed to get into the second one so cant comment on that so much.

Tis a tad old now but it tells one of the best stories in gaming history.

Please get the FIRST Knights of the old Republic, absolutely stunning story, amazing gameplay

Also Command and Conquer 3 has a great fun story

Jade Empire is supposed to be quite good, but I have never played it

I may get a slating for this however I enjoyed Deus Ex 2. Not as good as the orginal but still a good game worth playing, and the graphics are more up to date.

Other ideas

system shock 2
Far Cry aint bad
older final fantasy (I think you can get 7 n 8 on PC)
Half Life (might as well get the source version) and half life 2
Fear (I loved this story, but some people got a bit bored with the game)

Baldurs gate 1 and 2 with the addons in the correct order as they all follow on from eachother. Not exaactly a game worthy of a new PC but still the best storylines available on the PC.

Get KOTOR 2 aswell. Don't know why everyone prefers the first one, the second is a lot deeper, although the story does show signs of having been cut in places.
