Games with playability before visuals

I've been addicted to the remastered Bioshock on XBone recently, I honestly don't see the need for shinier and more realistic, just make games fun.

Thread inspired by the quote above; I'm going to buy the remastered collection and work my way through them.

Are there any other suggestions for games that have gameplay prioritised over visuals? They can still look pretty without crushing hardware.

I would offer Portal 2 as a game I thoroughly enjoyed without the need for glossy graphics.

Considering that new hardware is beyond the budget of most people now, I thought it could be worth collating a list, if possible

BTW I don't think we need to necessarily go older, just decent game play without the need for huge GPU grunt.

Turned 40 last month and still haven't found a game I've enjoyed more than this.

Kenshi, nothing else comes close.

That looks interesting, although £22 seems a bit steep. Added to Steam wishlist

I've tried DMC5 but it's very repetitive with very little challenge, although it does look and perform brilliantly.

Dark Souls.

I've loaded up DS3. I need to give this a go before I come back to the thread and select another.
