Enjoyed Soma

Also limbo & inside, but its hyper light drifter that i'm enjoying a lot due to its surreal atmosphere.

Trying to find others that nail a good bit of atmosphere

What I meant by atmosphere was.. hmmm maybe a better way to put it is 'games where you notice the atmosphere when not actually doing anything' ...? like street fighter isnt known for noticing or enjoying the atmosphere..

Some great ones here.

I recently bought fear + expansions and it is amazing how a sparse setting adds to the surrealness of the game..

will defo try some of these

Ah, another thing about dead space, I watched a video about how number three, the coop was supposed to be a figment of his imagination as he descends into madness. Which is well cool.

EA canned that brilliant idea and made it about shooting ****, because they want everything to be 5 million copies or more.

Oh and forced multi player when the team didn't want to spread their resources thinly.

Boo EA

It feels pre-destined what buildings or rooms the game will let you enter, very much 'game says no'. I can't go into this building, why? The door is glass, why can't I break the door down? No reason, just because the game says so.

I hate this. It jogged me out of the immersion in fallout 4 when it happened. Even just an empty husk of a room would work. Also, witcher - there has been loads of times in the forest i'm following the map and i get stuck because I cant walk off a 2 foot ledge or get through a 3 ft gap in trees. Although i've only just started the series and apparently it redeems itself :D

Plays like a Stephen king novel. A friendly descent into familiar terror. Dont often complete games as they often wear thin but this one didnt, they should make more

In my top 3 favourite writers, defo fave for sheer time enjoyed. You just made me buy it, £2.50, and I dont know anything about it. Recommendations ftw

Just OT but about books, if you have never read 'the house of leaves' by mark danielewski, then dont read any synopsis or reviews, and go for it. My fave horror novel ever.

the atmosphere in Bioshock Infinite was amazing,

I didnt like the look of infinite at first, only just getting round to playing it now, and it really is a brilliantly made game. Simple mechanics at its core, its everything else that is handled with such skill that really takes it up a level for me. & The racism in the story makes it all the more messed up because some bits are part of our history.

Pretty excited to see what ken levine comes up with next, I would love to see him make something slower & more thoughtful, but freakier than all the 'shocks

in VR, obvs

It's a very subjective thing. To me, atmosphere in a game is the tipping point where reality is suspended and I feel like I'm part of the game world. That really doesn't happen very often.

Part of the reason I am crazy about VR. Just standing in the game marvelling at the atmosphere, soaking in the sights & sounds, feeling the vibe. I love it

For the 5 or 10 minutes of it, you've seen the Gnomes & Goblins preview? http://store.steampowered.com/app/490840/

Best 'in a world' I've been in, hopefully they expand on it.

ah no, I havent! Thanks for the link. I'm currently really really really enjoying serious sam even though its a bit 'seen it before', I'm enjoying the playthrough.

DnD settings work so well in VR (well everything does but you know what I mean) Vanish realms has a nice feel to it too.

OT but I CANT WAIT for more games to start appearing

If you can get hold of a copy the Blade Runner game from the 90's captured the atmosphere of the film perfectly.

Never played that, apparently it has 12 endings? Crying out for an HD remake with new assets! shame the soundtrack isnt going to be as good in the new film (apparently). Hearing that synth line in a youtube video of this brings back good memories

Currently Alan Wake is taking my late nights. It does nail king pretty well, good acting, I like the fact he's a bit derpy

Ideas for next thread 'what games have the derpiest main character'?
