Hi all.

For a while now I have been trying to solve a strange problem of why doesn't my PC like any Flash content being run in any web browser. It eats any other program or game I throw at it and runs great. But it's just something as basic as Flash Player it bins out. I even get the odd BSOD every so often with an added small sized black block with pink coloured squares in it?!? Weird stuff.

It happens on any OS I put on. Tried XP, XP 64-bit, and 7 RC 64-bit. Also with IE7, IE8, and Firefox 3.5. Even went to the legnths of installing Flash Player 9 and still no joy.

My rather rubbish laptop with a Celeron and 768MB of DDR RAM works with Flash with no issues at all. I ran Memtest86 and left it for ages and no failures. But when I tried to run Prime95, it pretty much fails straight away. After that, stupid ntfs.sys BSOD start showing, and then a very strange FATAL ERROR BSOD later on. Never seen that one before. PANIC!!

Based on the info, does it look like that the CPU is at fault? The system isn't overclocked in any way. And the case is loaded with fans so can't be an overheating issue. Going to try a CPU from work later to see if that likes Flash.

Thanks all :)

That sounds weird... The computer runs everything ok apart from Flash apps? At a guess I would think its a memory or CPU error, but really dont know for sure. If you get a BSOD, then write down the error code and google it or post it here and maybe you can find more info. You can also analyse the dump files created from the BSOD with various tools for more info too, although this can be tricky to analyse sometimes.

System runs sweet with everything else. Played a few games before I tested the flash stuff.

Got a BSOD thingy for ya.

IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0xA (0x001A4562, 0x1C, 0x1, 0x80502302)

This happened after Firefox crashed with error report thing. I clicked Quit and then it BSOD.

Cheers

Failed on memory write. You either have a bad driver that you keep installing or a memory problem. The fact that you say only happens in Flash is probably false but that points more to software than hardware if that's indeed the case. It could also be a corrupt hard drive if the corrupt sectors are being used for paging.

Do movies played in Media Player crash?
How long do you play these games that don't crash?

To be honest I did set up the pagefile on my 2nd hard drive. Silly mistake when I wanted to get memory dumps for debugging. I have moved it back. But it has had BSODs even when I had pagefile on the C: volume. Even installed a new hard drive but no joy. See if I can replicate a BSOD later on and use the debug tools.

Media player has no issues and I can sit there for hours on end playing games with no probs.

One thing that caught my attention is the IRQ location 0x1C. Any idea on how to find out what this is? Only results I get from google is about clocks and stuff??

Thanks for the input guys :)

Just an update. Put in new OCZ Platinum 4GB kit 1066MHz RAM and still no luck. Still the same issue. Could it be a CPU problem? Don't want to splash cash around on replacement parts when I don't need to. Like the RAM for example.

Cheers all.

I give up. After a RAM upgrade and another Windows install, still BSOD. Decided to go in debt and buy a brand new set up. Just to make it stable to play Flash player rubbish.
