Games you only read about, not play?

Bit of a strange thread/concept so hopefully I can explain what I mean!

So essentially there are a few games out there that occasionally I read about in the forums, despite having never actually played them. I'm not talking about research into brand new games that I simply haven't got round to buying yet, rather games that I've actually learnt a bit about as an outsider. Does anyone else do this? Here are a few examples:

-WOW. I used to sometimes find myself clicking through a few pages of posts about it, learning some of the basics like deriving what 'ganking' meant, screenshots of epic loot (being a former Diablo2 player probably helped here), about how certain classes were getting nerfed by updates, how expansions introducing mounts as a reward for hitting a certain level etc were frowned upon as making it too easy, about how guilds would be raiding AQxx or farming this that and the other.
-Day Z. I remember spending an hour or so just reading the thread, it was kinda like an adventure story hearing people explain the game, safe places to set up camps, banding together with other players, confrontations with other groups and what gear they were able to steal from them, leaving gear for other players, watching video of tense standoffs between groups etc
-Planetarion. Tended to be more on IRC than forums but you know, I'm planet 0:6:22 or whatever, what defenses have you got, I'm sending in 27 of this ship and 16 of that, I'm getting attacked next turn what can you send

Yep, read through the threads about:

Rust
Arma 3 more than ive actually played it!
World of tanks even though I stopped playing about a year ago
Loads more tbh

STALKER is kind of that way for me - I was a huge huge fan back when it originally reared its head but then when like 6 years later it was still barely more than a few screenshots and hype I gave up on it (like it was completely dead to me) and while I've dabbled occasionally mostly for benchmarking I've never really sat down and played it. But spent quite a bit of time looking at the technical side of it, watching people playing it, etc.

Day Z - few people I know play it and it sounds quite interested but mostly I'm put off due to it using game engines which are a bit clunky and just frustrating to deal with for basic stuff.

Pretty much most games. I listen to several gaming podcasts and dispite the fact that i have only played a handful of games over the last few years, it feels like i have played more as i have listened/read about them so much.

Battlefield lately. Franchise is crap now but I like reading the forum comments and online blogs and videos to how the game is being received or how EA/DICE managed to dupe everyone for another year.

I've not found a decent PC gaming podcast, but I do enjoy listening to the AVForums one.

I did this with Don't starve. Watched the entire play through Sips did and when I finally bought the game I think I enjoyed it less than my vicarious playing via YouTube and reading all the threads etc. Still really enjoyed it, but I liked being able to explore the game through others experiences.

Usually I end up buying a game if I read too much about it, but games like WOW and some RPGs I usually won't.

Quite a few here.
Star craft 2, dota 2, lol, wildstars just recently too. Then theres dayz but I only do that sometimes.
Tbh, im put off by all the above's communities but ive always wanted to try them. Well apart from wildstar, im not getting bit by new mmo fever again :D

EVE Online.

I have no intention of ever playing this game but I love reading about the massive battles that have happened and the financial skulduggery that takes place.

It’s like a proper universe.

Have a go at a mod, Rroff. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

SOC with Autumn Aurora 2, for example. Or, Misery 2 for COP.

Starcraft - I am useless at this type of game so watching it with commentary for me is much more fun than playing it.

Hearthstone - Find this more enjoyable watching TB play his gimmick decks than playing myself

Diablo 3 + ROS - fun leveling up but quickly get bored of just grinding for gear - still read about it daily for some reason but no longer playing

Skyrim - Have over 80 hours logged in this game but am past bored with it yet still read about the adventures other people have in the game.

DayZ - Find people chatting about in game experiences fun but have no interest in playing the game myself (same for any zombie/survival game)

Arma
Day Z. Possibly Rust and The Forest. Although they seem interesting, dont think will get around to playing them.

EVE Online. I enjoyed reading stories about espionage and epic space battles. Never played the game or knew half what they were talking about but I enjoyed the conclusions of empires and corporations being wiped out.
