Hi,

Just wondering how many game instantances/people this server could hold?

Intel Core2Duo 2 x 2.0Ghz+
2GB DDR2 PC5400 RAM
160GB SATA2 Hard Drive
1000GB transfer allowance /month
Bandwidth usage monitoring
Linux OS

really depends on the game and player slots tbh.
Some games work a lot better on windows, some work betetr on linux.
As you increase player slots the cpu usage normally increases a great deal.
In short more information is needed

Ive been told that on a standard gameserver you can usually run 5-10 servers of 25 man each. But it depends on the game. We have a dedi box which is a Xeon (Probably 2.4, but i dunno) 2Gb ram and 120Gb drive (Unlimited off-box file storage though). We run 3xCSS servers (24 man each) and a CoD4 32man deathmatch server.

It will hold a lot of spaces but you cant say exactly. The chances of every game hosted being full is quite slim.

I use to have a dedicated P4 3.2 with 2GB of ram on windows which ran a CSS 16 man surf and a 20 man deathmatch both busy and also hosting another 16 man CSS server + 2 TS servers and 2 ventrilo servers. It was completely fine and rarely reached past 80% cpu usage

what tick?

Im only asking this as I might start a small gamehosting company. My only concern is that there so many other hosters out there.

Im not talking inx-gaming level / killercreation just me and a couple of boxes to boast my money each month.

Is it worth it? I was gonna start with that server as theres no setup and its cheap. Then see what I sell, with a view to buying a couple more boxes over time.

Is that
2x 2Ghz Core2Duo
or
1x 2Ghz Core2Duo?

If the latter, 3x30 slot TF2 servers is what I've been told. I'm looking into the same thing at the moment, I'm considering colocation though to keep costs down - but I can't find anywhere to DIY rack servers, they all seem to be pre-built or too expensive to build your own :(

100 tick match server
2x 66 tick (surf + deathmatch server)
another 66 tick server hosted for someone else

If your thinking of trying to make money id stay well away. Trying to find people to buy a server off you is quite hard and when payment time is due it doesnt all go to plan.....

yeh think your right. I was talking to a GSP owner who i got to know well & he said for the level of support you have to give, the margins just aint worth the hassle.
