Gametrailers closing its virtual doors after 13 years

A shame :( Really enjoyed watching their reviews...

Apparently, all the staff found out they were getting laid off and that was it

Sounds terrible that they only found out hours before the close. I also used to enjoy their reviews.

To be honest if these people are good at what they do it won't be hard for them to setup a youtube channel for FREE ! and then to make there own videos. & make loads of money and awesome reviews, there are other youtubers who have moved to different company's over the years and the fans have followed them

This, given some initiative and experience. They'll be making something to live off in no time.

Real shame to see them closing down, they were one of the first computer related communities that I joined, their forums became a bit redundant after I joined a couple of other communities though.
I didn't watch too many of their videos as I felt they were sometimes a bit too careful about not upsetting the developers in many of their videos, I used to quite like some of the comedic approaches they sometimes took though.

I'm not overly surprised that they've not been doing as well with how easy it has become to setup your own YouTube channel for showing off games and creating reviews, the industry is over saturated with reviewers these days.

Everyone is a critic.

Very little quality in a crowded market.

Youtube has a LOT to answer for and users are the primary offenders.

Upsetting that Break.com (Owned by GTs parent company) is now just a Youtube mirror, pathetic.

I remember when Break.com offered something Youtube did not.

It's a corrupt industry, I wonder how any of them are still around especially IGN where their review scores are influenced by how much they get bribed.

Honest reviews are few and far between and Youtube is saturated with people singing from the same ****ing hymn sheet and just regurgitating other people's hard work or rubbish.

It boggles my mind how some Youtubers based on their subscriber numbers get offered high end gear for free. This is more related to hardware reviewers than gaming.

I was looking at microphones and one guy was given two mid range priced mics for free for a side by side test and he wasn't even talking directly into one of them like he did with the other making one sound incredibly warm with clarity and the other airy and bright. Hardly a fair test considering they were both condenser cardioid types.
