So I'm sure a few of us are looking at this Samsung 4K panel that's being released soon in the UK with anticipation.

I just wanted to throw a few questions out there and see what we think.

I currently have a single R9 290. I'm thinking that I would definitely need to buy another to play games like BF4 at 3840x2160, but possibly 3 looking at a benchmark recently for BF4 @ 4k assuming the AA is turned down or off.

Would 4GB VRAM be enough when dealing with 8 mega pixels on screen?

Lastly, when running lower resolutions on a monitor, do you have to worry about it dividing perfectly?

I.e. would 2560x1440 look dodgy on a native 3840x2160 monitor? I assume 1920x1080 would look perfectly normal if a little low when looking at a 28" panel. For those moments when you want to play a game that's a bit too demanding for your hardware.

2x290's would cope with bf4 very well @4k. Tested myself using resolution scaling on bf4. Plenty of vram. Should be able to use Ultra settings as well, but you may have to dial down MSAA.

4GB is fine for BF4, been shown to be *just* enough will all the trimmings, 1 card/2 cards couldn't handle all the trimmings so a moot point ;)

Depends on the settings you ultimately want to use, but i feel a single 290 will give more than playable framerates using medium/high details. You wont need much AA either to be frank, 28" and 4k res, the PPI will deal with the aliasing nicely.

As for the other question, never honestly played anything other than my native resolution (exception being downsampling) so cannot really answer that, though providing you're running the same aspect ratio should look fine :)

Be prepared for the vocal minority who feel there's no point running 4k unless everything is maxed out :D

I have that monitor on order and just waiting delivery. I wish I had seen Diagro's post first though, as then I wouldn't have bothered :D

2*290's will be fine bud but yer, you will need 2 for decent settings :)

Nice! I'm sure you'll want show it off anyway, but please post a review!

If all I have to do is get another 290 then perfect! I'll only have to run the monitor by the Mrs. That she will notice, another card.. Probably not :p

I'm happy running with no AA on a 27" 1440p, I would have thought more than twice the pixel count for an extra inch diagonal would mean even the eagle-eyed wouldn't need it. :D

That new 28" 4k monitor is not worth it.
30 is not enough for gaming. I would stay away.

Buddy you can now get a 4k @60hz 28 inch monitor. Search for "SAMSUNG UD590 Series U28D590D". Your post is so last month ;) lol

Overclockers do not stock it yet though (but Gibbo has said he will be stocking them).

With BF4 maxed out, when I used the in-game downsampling thingy I only managed to get around 45fps with 150% scaling from 2560x1440 with my 2 780s; so I reckon 3 cards of the calibre of a 780 would just about manage at 4K (or 2 decently OC'ed cards).

Just search for 'Samsung U28D590D' which is the official designation of the monitor. You'll get some better information that way. ;)

Ooo nice.
I didn't know they had got a 60hz one.

Will keep an eye out.

Although for me personally it needs to be 32"+ to be worth it

Samsung LU28D590D review 60hz UHD montior 28" ;)

http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/5269/samsung-lu28d590d-review-4k-becomes-affordable.

You wont get anything over 28" at 60hz for a sensible price for a while, it's because 28-inch UHD TN panels are manufactured by CMO, the M280DGJ-L30 that are used in all the budget 28" UHD monitors by all manufacturers. Samsung are using 60Hz UHD scalers in this monitor instead of what other companies did and used 30 Hz UHD scalers. Samsung LU28D590D connected through DisplayPort 1.2. will give 60Hz UHD resolution. :D

Sorry for the thread hijack, but don't think this question is worthy of it's own thread. :)

I'm seriously considering one of those Sammy 4K screens, but was wondering if 2x MSI Lightning 7970 GHz cards would be enough to game on with it?

Sure it will be enough but be prepared to turn settings down. I will be running a pair of Titans on this Sammy 4K on Monday and fully expect to have to turn the odd setting down.
