Gaming at 4K

I wouldn't touch any new monitor until DP 1.3 is ratified and starts shipping in monitors. DP 1.3 is expected to be finalised in Q2 2014 and devices with DP 1.3 should start appearing in 2015. DP1.3 will (should) have the ability to run with AMD Free-sync.

If you absolutely need a monitor now then fair enough. But buying a 4K monitor at ~£500+ would be a waste if DP 1.3 starts shipping with 4K monitors in a year. Of course considering how long it could take for DP 1.3 devices to appear you could be waiting a while. :)

Duly noted Senor ICDP.

Me persoanlly, I wouldn't bother with a 4k monitor at the moment anyway. I'd much rather have a better frame rate at 120hz / low response, than the increased resolution. But that's just my opinion. Those Sammys are TN panels right?

Will do and I love a good reason to do a Graph with all tall buildings. Only Max settings will be used as well to give an indication of what is what, so I don't expect the graph to be that big.

Bring it round here, I will give it some welly.:D:D:D:D:

OT a bit guys but have been contemplating the switch to a better monitor myself.

I am holding out for a middle point between 4k and 21:9. 3440 x 1440 monitors seem to be up my street, hopefully they don't come in too expensive. I love the extra wide viewing angle for gaming but hate bezels and multi-monitor set ups. I feel that 3440x1440 will likely match my kit better too, as i don't have the cash to splash on super high end multi GPU set ups and the only thing i would want turned down is AA. The total pixels would be about 60% of 4k, so i am hoping my 290x with its half decent clock could handle it solo.

What do you think, is the 290x on its own up to the job?

I am considering picking up another but if i can get away with one and just turning AA down in most titles, ill be fairly happy waiting for the mining 290x's to hit the MM for cheap pennies.

If you can get away with just a single 290 to run these high end 21:9 monitors and they themselves dont come in costing a bomb, it seems like a really nice high end set up for a fairly average priced rig.

Look at some graphs for 1600p and take 15-20% off the FPS, should give you a rough idea what to expect from your 290x :)

Pixel count and required grunt scales pretty linearly from 1600+

I might change from my 30" hazro to the 28" 4k monitor.

I just need to see one and see if I can be happy with the drop in size....
Would rather a 32"+ one tho ; (
