hi guys,

just looking to make another gaming build

i was trying to get it to a budget of £1000 all in (monitor, keyboard case etc..)

so i am trying to build the base of the system for around £700 i will come to accessories another time.

but as you can see i got carried away with shiny pretty things. mainly the GTX 980 and 4820k

is this a little over kill even for current AAA?

as its going to be gaming only, i think the 16GB RAM is also overkill.

so yeah just trying to shave a bit off this price, unless I'm aiming to high already.

i am also unsure about the x79 and x99, is it simply the x99 is new and x79 is old?

Intel 4820K 3.70GHz (Ivybridge-E) Socket LGA2011
CP-502-IN - £239.99

Gigabyte X99-UD4 Intel (Socket 2011) DDR4
MB-513-GI - £167.99

TeamGroup Elite 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2400MHz Quad Channel
MY-058-TG - £179.99

Crucial MX100 256GB SSD
HD-036-CR - £79.99

GALAX GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design" 4096MB GDDR5
GX-005-GX - £419.99

£1087.95

all input appreciated :D

might as well get the 512gb ssd... worth it in the long run

you need a cooler as well, going to need the h100i at least for clocking that chip

and drop it down to a 970... 980 is too much money for little performance increase

Stulids blown the budget and tmmzys spec you a GPU which may sound like a jet engine. Haha!

Both specs a good though, stulid has (obviously) gone high end and Tamzzy has worked with the budget..

Ill answer you questions.

The CPU that goes with X99 is the 5820k, the 4820k is outperformed by the 4790k in most gamingsituations, so that's the way to go, as the boards/RAM are cheaper aswell

The 980 is TOP END, so yes it is OTT for gaming but as 4k has been released a few people are aiming at maxxing that. Basically the 980 is a card for people aiming for 4k gaming. With your budget you wont be. The 970 is a good GPU also and worth a look at.

The 780 specced by Tamzzy is a great performing GPU, just check some benchmarks) and for £200 its a great deal.

The 4670k is the gaming CPU of choice really, thats if 1080p is enough for you (which it is for me) and you're not doing a HUGE amount of video editing.

as its going to be gaming only, i think the 16GB RAM is also overkill.

Yeah, 8GB is enough. 16GB is needed for X99 though as its quad channel (4 x4gb).

i am also unsure about the x79 and x99, is it simply the x99 is new and x79 is old?

Yes, Takea look at Z97. :)

Not blown any budget, just pointing the cpu doesn't fit the board he spec'd.

i think the cooler is the stock titan cooler underneath, just uglier looking, so it shouldn't sound too bad

If that's the case, I retract my joke. I though it was one of the stick coolers of old, My friend had a 570 with a branded stock cooler on and it could burst ears (though he did clock it to hell).

I can confirm that the GTX 780 quoted above is quiet, fan noise does increase under load, however nothing like a jet engine. To be fair none of the cards at OcUK sound like an RB199 :)

hi, sorry guys, life got in the way of the internet. prft.

@CinderzFTW not at double the price for the SSD i can live with 256, only games anyway.

cooler? stock will be fine for now, not going OTT with it just yet. stock heatsink, this not ok?

yes GPU, good call.

yes @stulid i just learnt there are THREE 2011 sockets :( thanks for the build, im still working other sources for final bits, so hopefully dont need to spend lots on case/PSU then can afford this.

@tamzzy that looks just aboot reet (northern accent) for me man. super. gonna check over some simple specs, but ye! mint all in, full whack :D

@Doomedspeed brill, ok good insight thank you for clearing those points up.

yup, ok @tamzzy spec gonna go for, as i wasnt aware of 3 sockets of 2011 which is great!

thanks for the input fellas.
