Hello. I'm new to this 'build your own pc' thing so be patient.
First of all I was considering buying the alienware X51 at £700 without a screen. I was told be friends that I could build one for less money and have better specs. I set about searching for parts. The list I have come up with is...(it may well be utter ****, but I'm new to this)

GRAPHICS CARD- Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II TOP 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
MONITOR- Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS 24" Widescreen LCD
CPU, MB, FAN & RAM- Krypton 700a AMD Bulldozer FX-4 4100 3.60GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-004-AS)
HARD DRIVE- Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003)
CASE- Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller
PSU- OcUK Crusade 550W Dual-Rail High Efficiency '80 Plus' Power Supply
KEYBOARD & MOUSE- Logitech Wireless MK520 Desktop (920-002606)
OPTICAL DRIVE- Samsung SH-S222BB/RSMS 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black/Silver/Biege)
OS- Windows 7 home premium

Any comments (positive or negative) are welcome. Any recommendations for parts etc are welcome too.

Also I will be using it for gaming and general use. So yeah, please help.

I would go with the 7850, and get a CPU cooler later. Get **** peripherals in the meanwhile, and upgrade when you can to a £25 mouse (G400, CM Xornet), and a Sidewinder X4. Maybe a SSD (128GB M4) as well while you're at it.

Brilliant. Thanks a lot. I'm assuming this setup will be good for running most games on high settings and will still be a practical everyday computer too? My main requirements were that I have a monitor and good gaming capability too. So thanks.

Definitely. You have to realise that the 7850, when overclocked, gives a stock GTX580 a run for its money :) And the i5 SandyBridge / IvyBridge is pretty much the best CPU you can get for gaming and doing stuff, especially value-wise.

For monitors, they all share the same resolution (1080p), and the cheap ones the same inputs (VGA + DVI). Then it comes between deciding if you want a more compact monitor (22'') or a bigger one (24''). The difference in size between the two is noticeable.
