Hi, I have been out of touch with all the current hardware on the market, and have only briefly looked at what is about... haven't found much time to read further into it... but can anyone suggest a build for around £800 (less is best) if possible...

I've been looking at the GeForce GTX 460 and the ATI HD 6800 series graphics cards - mainly playing COD Black Ops...not sure if these are the right ones i should be looking at, I am currently on a laptop with a 8800M GTX graphics card, so looking for a significant jump in performance.

I'm after an i7 Set up, so any suggestions on CPU, Graphics Card, Motherboard and RAM, I could probably pick the HDD, monitor and the rest myself... thanks.

Heres a complete base unit.

well under budget, if you need a copy of windows7 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-127-MS - then its £734.47

But for gaming you should just get a i5 760 cpu, which then means cheaper dual channel ram and a less expensive motherboard can be picked, freeing up money for a beast of a graphics card.

Alternatively, the easy solution if you want an i7 and are willing to stretch an extra £50-£60

thanks for this, great specs! But i was wondering, reading up on few more posts on these forums, I heard Intel are releasing the new Sandy Bridge CPU's are they worth waiting for? rather than upgrading to an i7/i5 at this point ? If they are anywhere near £300 I won't bother tho...

The prices should be competitive. They're not an upgrade to the enthusiast x58/i7 combo though - that'll happen later next year. They're an upgrade to the P55 platform. As you're willing to go for with the P55 + i5, maybe wait until early next month to see how the SB CPUs fair.
