Gaming Build

Your thoughts ?

I'd swap out the 7200rpm 160gb WD for a couple of 10000rpm Raptors and a storage drive if you can save some money elsewhere (already have Keyboard/Mouse etc)

I'm sure there are a couple of things the folks on OCUK Forums would recommend as alternatives to those I have selected ;)

imar's spec aint too bad, i'd swap the 2 disks for 1 seagate 250gb.

mobo to something like gigabyte p35 ds3r, abit ip35 or asus p5k.

with whats saved and anything left under the 1200 i'd look at getting a GTS or GTX to go with the 24" monitor.

Replacing those comps with:

Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£69.99 (£82.24)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3250410AS)
£38.99 (£45.81)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
£162.99 (£191.51)

Sub Total : £926.88
Shipping : £22.44
VAT : £166.13
Total : £1,115.45

For £1200 I would be getting a 24" to make the most out of a good GPU m8, 24" is the new 22" (prices fell esp OCUK one) and 22" is common now. ;)

My current 20" Widescreen monitor is fantastic but if I had the cash, the two changes I would make to my current setup are:

1. 24" Monitor
2. 64bit OS

If it's in your budget go for it :)

Deducting the keyboard and mouse gives you a grand total of
Sub Total : £844.90
Shipping : £20.95
VAT : £151.52
Total : £1,017.37

Someone told you BS, 24" is a dream and gives you lots of desktop real estate even if you did not Game.

You will need a good GPU to game at its native Res of 1920x1200 in some new games, you can lower Res though, but your spending £1200 so will have best of all.

nice work on the spec imar.

WildRuss:

You said decent gaming, which to me implies decent/playable gfx, but not all bells and whistles with the latest games, in which case the GTS and 24" screen will look sweet :D
