any recommended gaming capture utilities?

Fraps is not free I see and the Print screen button works in some games but not all. Not too fussed about movies at the moment. Will then consider Fraps for that when I get my head around some editing software

Been living under a rock for years and recently started playing some great PC games and want to capture and post some shots to the screenshot thread.

Fraps will do your screenshots just fine with the free version. It won't save to anything other than .bmp (I think) so you'll have to convert them with something else to post them.

Xfire, it's free and will do video as well. Never used the video capture, so I don't know how good it is.

Xfire is fine, only problem I have with it it can't record the sound properly from my soundcard and records from my mic instead lol.

But for pics it's great.

The free version of fraps takes screenshots in any game, it's the video capture that is limited to 30 secs.

To convert your screenshots from bitmaps to jpegs, right click on the image, select edit. The image now opens in Paint. Then click on File then click Save as. Then from the save as type drop down menu, change the file type to jpeg.

All for free
