Sup everybody, I’m currently in the process of doing some research with plans to hopefully open up a community centre, in the centre will offer internet access, computers for people to complete work & also a LAN gaming network, I was wondering if any of you know places that do this and what there charges are like (£x.00 for x amount of time)? Also what would you pay so you could play on up to 15 pc's with your mates on a LAN, what games would you like to play and what do you think of the idea, with funding if it goes ahead I will also add a few 360s to the LAN, let me know what you think, the centre will also offer a print shop for local businesses, community & community groups, as well as a web design and pc repair shop.

Thanks for taking your time it read this

Very good idea. Which area do you live in? Games that are pretty popular on lans include Counter Strike Source, Counter strike 1.6, Battlefield 2142.

They're about to open one in Birmingham, and have plans for London.

I think LAN centres are a big risk personally. All depends on the location.

Ive seen this & its an amaizng idea of whidch i wish i thought of years ago lol but i'm thinkig of doing it dor a small community & also offering other services such as a print shop, computer repair & training courses with learn direct, its mainly about the community rather than bring in a heap of money. In my case its more than just gaming i just see the demand being for gaming as i work in a community centre at the moment and have started a wednesday games night and we only have 8 machines and are fully booked fo r3 weeks already without advertising

I don't want to rain on your parade, but with current speeds of the internet and its relative low cost is there a market for such a place (maybe if it was just part of your offering maybe. edit : which you say it will be)
I mean where would I prefer to play? At home in the comfort of your living room with 5.1 SS and a 32"+ tv on live with a great bunch of mates or in a noisy room with a bunch of chavs and stereo headsets on a 22"- screen?

5 - 10 years ago this would have been a good venture, but I think the low cost of home computing/gaming and internet costs mean that there is a limited market for this.

You might want to look at organizing large scale lan events and competitions every few weeks or something.

So have say a Halo2 tournaments, entrants bring their own console, you provide the displays and lan connections, they hook up and enter into a competition for a cash prize.

i see your point but doing my research in *** area not everybody can afford the gaming systems or *** games + they woudl love to book a room with a groupf there mates & play against one another, this is from what i've researched in *** area,im still researching but the response i'm gettin is they would liek to play in a room all toegether with 15 odd machines, its a different experience (although i do like the at home with 37" hd ready screen lol) i still would even myself come down and play as a group

Thanks Gareth i've sent in several e-mails to the funding companies and we shall see what they say, i think i stand a god chance of funding, how much though we shall see
