Hey guys, I am looking for someone to give me a list of components for a computer that I can build. My budget is £500 for a working computer however in the next month I will have another £200 for a GPU but a very basic one will be fine for now.

I am willing to go with AMD or Intel with the option to Overclock. Please note that the £500 budget is only so I can get a working computer with a decent CPU and then I will be upgrading over the upcoming months. If someone can provide me with a list of components that would be great. Thanks

i5-2500K + Motherboard + 8GB RAM + Case + PSU + Whatever HD you can scratch together should fill up £500.

In a couple of months, add a GPU and bigger HD as prices return to normal.

If you can go 100 over budget you can get this:

Intel Core i5-2500K
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68
Corsair Builder Series CX 500W
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB
OcUK 22x DVD±RW

Just add a case, if you get the OEM CPU then £25 on a Gelid Tranquillo.

(It's 510ish sans case and cooler)

Next month spend £170ish on a GFX card, and hopefully the month after you can score a 2TB HD for under £100.

Can you guys reccomend me a motherboard with built in graphics, case, psu, dvd drive and hard drive within my budget, dont mind if it is slightly over. Thanks

The i5 2500K has built in graphics. Build around that.

Cheapest Z68 Mobo was mentioned above.

That looks good :) But what do you mean by a 'OEM CPU' and why would I need a Gelid Tranquillo? Is the standard CPU cooler that comes with it not good enough? And what does 'It's 510ish sans case and cooler' mean :P

oem means NO stock cooler plus its 1yr warranty rather than 3yrs with the retail. the retail one comes with the cooler plus 3yrs warranty.

either way the stock intel cooler is rubbish, you'll want a decent 3rd party cooler such as the gelid tranquilo.

are you planning sli/xfire in the future?

no sli/xfire option

use the voucher code ag15 to get 15% off so if my maths is correct that's £20.85 off so £537.35

the ag15 code is for buying an antec case and psu http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18353998 valid till 31st january

they seem to have put up the price of the seagate barracuda from £90 to £109 which is only like 31 less than the non 'this week only' price, they removed the 250gb samsun spinpoint f3 but have reduced the price of the 320gb as it was ~£80 just the other day when I looked(£60 still over priced compared to the pre-flood prices but much more reasonable at the moment).

tho saying all this unless you're buying tonight the new 'this week only' offers start tomorrow afternoon so some of the prices quoted today(in my case the ram and dvdrw) will not be the same tomorrow.

Sans means without. £510 will get you bare bones, you need to add a cooler (I recommend a Gelid Tranquillo) and a case (it's a personal choice). £600 will be enough to add both of those to the bare bones spec I mentioned.

You'll have a strong core PC if you pick those bits, that is usable - and as you get spare cash available will be able to add a proper graphics card and some storage.

The GPU on the i5 2500K isn't too bad, i've played through Arkham City on it.

Is the Gelid Tranquillo a good enough CPU cooler to be able to overclock? Also, is the i5 2500k graphics good enough for video editing etc just whilst i save up for a more expensive graphics card?

Also,

I have a i5 overclocked to a mild 4.0 on a Tranquillo, it's quiet and cool. Don't know the other cooler. The i5 has HD2000 GFX, it's fine at all but heavy gaming.
