Hi, i was wondering if anyone can help me out. I am looking a half decent gaming computer. The max i want to spend is about £500 or just over. i am going to build it myself. so if anyone could help that would be great.

What does your budget includes, because there's about £200-£250 difference between a just a tower, and a full rig (monitor, OS, mouse + keyboard + speakers).

Anyway I did the same as you to an extent and went AMD and am very happy with it

Not silent but not too loud either. You'd have to spend a bit more to get it silent/very quiet.

Quiet enough.

You could probably run the GPU at 10% at 40C fan speed at idle, so basically inaudible (I would suggest you change the fan profile as it is probably set on 'loud', like my 7970). Then ramping up to 40% at 65C, which would be the expected temperature at full load.

And I wouldn't worry about the PSU, it's made by one of the best company in the business. You may want a CPU cooler for better temps, overclocking, or noise performance, and of course, an extra case fan at the front for airflow.

The Merc Beta has no fan emplacement for the roof. Not necessary a bad thing, if you are worried about stuff falling into the case, or getting dusty. But for that, you can always place something on top to block the vents.

If you are going for the i5 in Olivier`s spec then yes, but will not fit in the Merc Alpha.
But if you are going with the i3, it is overkill, a £20ish cooler will suffice.

A bunch of coolers. I'd probably go for the middle ground (True Spirit 120), or the Matterhorn, depending. For a i3, I might not even bother unless it's a problem.
