Hi all

What are the best gaming controllers out currently.

I have had plenty of experience in the past using game pads for consoles, but the interaction with a keyboard and mouse can provide a less than brilliant expereince for certain games.

What would be recommended wheel for driving games?

What would be recommended gaming pad for fighting style games (StreetFrighter is rumoured to be coming to PC, don't fancy this using a keyboard)

What are the 3D glasses etc like for gaming? There are some weird and wonderful glasses, you know the type, the ones with the screens built into the lens etc. How are they? what they like to game?

Game controller I think the xbox one is meant to be best at the moment.

AS for the 3d glasses most need a refresh rate of 80hz or so, so can't be used for most LCD screens.

Although Ithink zalman does a 3d screen (no glasses) but it is quite pricey.

I thought most people would tend to learn towards the MS Xbox 360 pad.

I remember back when GTA3 was released, I bought a PS2 pad with a PS2 -> PS2 connection convertor. Was a nightmare, configuring the thing though lol.

I got rid of it on da-bay a few week later, I just didn't like the response of it!

I'm a big fan of Logitech Rumblepad 2. It's all down to preference really. The Rumblepad 2 is essentially a PS2 style controller, but much chunkier, and with extra weight, which suits me great. Like any input peripheral, a large amount of the decision is personal preference.

I use a PS2 pad + This adaptor. I had a PS2 adaptor in the past that was just awful but this one works 100% with everything, even with rumble. If I didn't have a PS2 pad already I would have just got one of the Logitech clones as they're very good by all accounts. The PS3 pads work nativey apparently, so do the 360 pads but I don't like their shape as much.

ps2 pad is better for d-pad than the xbox360 but the analogue stick on the 360 pad wins out. Depends which one you need the most :)

(I personally have several of both, used for different games)

xbox 360 pad. Not just because its a good pad but because most PC games auto-detect and use it. E.G. racing games using the analog triggers for accelerate etc. Playing assassins creed at the mo and as usual its set the pad up for me the same ( i imagine) as the xbox version. I do use mouse + keyboard for FPS games but some games like AC are better on the joypad. It's also great for playing emulators like MAME.

I think i read somewhere that to qualify for the 'games for windows' branding any game that uses a joypad HAS to make use of the Xbox 360 pad. Makes sense, MS + MS

xbox 360 controller, a lot of games have pre-made configs for it and games for windows have to be compatible with the xbox 360 controller

Yeah I bought one of these yesterday and so far i'm impressed. I loved it on GRID where it changed the menu setting buttons to the xbox controller straight away. Also Pro seems to play differently in comparison to the PC to PS2 converter.

Anyone recommend some good games to play with the xbox 360 controller?

GoW and AC are both great with the 360 controller.

I've got two 360 controllers and while great they have a couple of problems.

1. God-awful D pad, almost to the point where its unusable.
2. Rumble only works in games that support X-input, the vast majority of older games use direct input, you can use the XBCD drivers to get round this though. For some reason rumble is always badly implemented too, in Assasins creed its so feeble its barely worth having.

Any Games for Windows titles are all configured to work flawlessly with the Xbox pad

Lost Planet
Sega Rally
Tomb Raider Anniversary

To name but 3 that work superbly

i have the 360 wired controller on the pc, rumble works good on grid.

Does the wireless have the same rumble? i mean does it work ok in windows?

best for Tony Hawk style games is the PS2 controller, the perfect controller for it, also find this best for football / ice hockey games

i use my 360 controller for games like TrackMania

The 360 Pad is great, but you'll hate it for Street Fighter, as the DPad is terrible. For that, a PS2 pad + adapter might do you better.

is the Dpad bad using it on the Xbox360 - having never used a xbox360, I wouldn't know.

Last console I owed was a PS2 back around 6 yrs ago...

I've got 2 logitech chillstream's. Look similar(a little better) to the xbox controller. But they also have cool air passing through the back, keeps your hands from not gettin sweaty. Oh, and they get recognised instantly as an Xbox controller
