Thinking i'm going to finally bite the upgrade bullet between xmas and new year. I'm after the following components for:
CPU
CPU Cooler
Motherboard
Ram
PSU

System will largely be used for gaming with a fair amount of coding etc so whilst it was a close call between the 4790k & 5930k. but leaning towards the devils canyon.

Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving + Gigabyte Free Upgrade + £30 Intel Cashback **
BeQuiet! Pure Rock Cpu Cooler - 120mm
EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
16GB ram

Certainly open to suggestions, particularly on the cpu cooler not sure if it comes with thermal compound! opted for an air cooled over AIO on noise grounds

Current Spec
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/LGA775)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 650W ATX2.2 Modular SLi Compliant Power Supply

CORSAIR CMX12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB (3 x 4GB) (one stick failed so down to 8GB)

Asus GeForce GTX 780 Direct CU II OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Coolermaster Storm Scout 2 Advanced Gaming Case
Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB SSD
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache

i've had it for nearly 6 years, so the thinking was to replace it now. i may save the old components and construct another pc for a relative

Yeah, replace that PSU then, and do keep the old parts as the i7 is still not a slouch :D

Looks fine to me, go for it :)
I recommend getting a tube of £5 paste should you mess up fitting the first attempt, then at least you have some to reapply :)

appreciate the input guys, just a question on the cashback deals, do they have to be in a ocuk bundle?

could i get a different board? thinking i may need an extra couple of sata sockets.

It just needs to be a qualifying CPU+board bought from the same place at the same time, doesnt have to a bundle, it can be separate items.

The UD5H/UD5H BK has a few more ports.

Do you need more than 6 ports?

What OS will you be running? From the looks of it you have plenty of SSD space for a MAMP/LAMP/WAMP install which is where you really get the speed in dev work. The multiple CPU core's will help with anything like Code Sniffer, IDE etc.

Looks like a great build for a multi use rig though

The Z97X-Gaming 7 has 8 SATA ports (2x non-intel controller, 6x intel controller) and there is a bundle with that here - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-008-GI

That has 750W SuperFlower PSU, 16GB fast RAM, mobo, 4790k CPU, some paste, a mouse mat and a mug :D
Whack a CPU cooler on top, you're good to go

OR the UD5H(-BK) also has 8x SATA ports. You don't get the upgrade deal with the gaming 7 but it is a good board nonetheless

OR!! another Gaming 7 bundle with a 1000W PSU - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-007-GI

i think 6 should just about cover me, ive got 3-4 hdds and a couple of optical sata drives

In that case just go for the UD3H-BK bundle :p UNLESS you intend on expanding HDD storage in the future? (More drives)
6 ports on there, can't go wrong with that board - cashback and that warranty upgrade plan thingy

Great will double check for the fittings. Really appreciate all of the help guys, will hopefully get an order placed in the next few days, before i change my mind again!
