So I went ahead and grabbed a second 780 today and as I already have the gaming ed I thought 2 matching cards would be nice. The price difference was only £40 between that and the lightning though so have I made a mistake? My opinion is that with 2 cards an extra 100mhz means nothing to me but is the lightning that much better of a card?

From what little I understand, the Lightning's real draw is in how well it overclocks... and the pritty pritty lights, of course!
Added bonus - You get a free copy of Watch Dogs with your card. I only just missed that when I bought my Lightning and ended up with the rather naff Daylight instead... If only I'd known they were gonna do this!!

I'd guess that with 100MHz not being something you're too worried about, you don't intend to fiddle with the settings much?

End of the day, they are both 780s and should perform thus. There might have been some issues with one GE and one Lightning (perhaps even some small gains over two GEs) but having two cards the exact same should keep it simple and reduce the likely problems with SLI. Knowing absolutely naff-all about multiple cards myself, I'd certainly have picked two the same, for this very reason.

Yeah I had two of them until I sold one to buy the two new consoles and I do like the aesthetic of matching cards. I decided to buy the Gaming ed anyways as I do like to overclock and my current card does 1200mhz easy but running two I dont think overclocking gives me much as they destroy everything anyways. Cant wait t get it installed tomorrow when I give my PC a good strip down and spring clean :D

Thanks for the feedback though. I would like a lightning but then I would want a second one to match them up haha

I have 2 780 gaming OCs and both do 1250Mhz core clocks at stock volts. With modded bios, I've had 1350+ core clocks. Cracking cards and nicely priced.
