Gaming/Graphic Performance Query

Hey guys. Just a quick query. Didn't really know how to type this in google so ill try here and hopefully someone can share some knowledge :)

When gaming (System in sig) I generally am playing at high frames. So for instance if im playing BF4 I could be running around 140 frames. Suddenly stuff will kick off in the game and it might reduce the frames to 60/70 frames (for arguments sake) At this point I notice quite a sluggish experience until the frames increase again.

What do I need to make my gaming all smooth when these drops do occur please? Is Free-Sync the answer?

Many thanks, hope this makes sense? :)

Mantle mode in active in BF4. Still get the sluggish feeling when the frames drop though. Likewise with other games. Just would love a solution so that when it does occur there isn't as much noticeability

I'm amazed you get any sluggishness in BF4. I can't say I've ever experienced anything similar and you have a lot more GPU power than me.

Whats your RAM usage like with BF4 running, I wonder if thats the issue.

It sounds like CPU bottleneck during intense moments, but your sig shows your CPU at 4.8ghz,that might not be enough on 4 thread cpu in in some games to overcome a bottleneck in crossfire.

Maybe swap out to an I7?

The moment it turns sluggish (may only be for a second or so) is when it drops from high frame to low frame, but it is off putting to say the least.

Bit of an expensive switch to an i7 right now but would be an upgrade for the future perhaps :)

I get this in games to. If I'm running at a solid 60FPS and if something happens and causes it to dip for a split second their will be some micro stutter.

Doesn't every one get this

Would it be a sound investment to go from an i5 to an i7 on a 1155 socket or eventually save to move to the 1150 socket?

A 3770k or even a 26/700k would do grand. You can use theese in your current board. I made the move from a 3770k to a haswell 4770k, was a stupid move for gaming in hindsight. But I do like messing about with new cpu's.

Still 60-70 fps should still feel smooth.

I reckon the problem is not the CPU at all, but the fact the 295 is a Xfire GPU.

You might find things are more stable with a single GPU.

For example, before I had my 970 I was running SLI'd 670's. Supposedly they are faster in BF4 than the 970. Well this wasn’t my experience. The 970 definitely feels smoother and I do not get any slow downs.

I was noticing slow downs with the 670's. If I was to do a sudden turn during a very intense moment, I could get a split second slow down. This absolutely does not happen with the 970.

I'm running a 3570k too.

As a test if you can disable one of the gpu's and if it's smoother, there’s the answer.

What I would do, is remove your drivers with DDU, then fresh install.

Then try the alernate crossfire modes for bf4 if you still have the same problem.

I'm surprised no one else notices this when gaming isn't it just a normal thing from the frames dropping from higher to lower

Uninstalled drivers and its the same. Like Tom D has said maybe its just a common micro stutter. Which I hope the Free Sync might correct hopefully :S
