Hi Guys,

Probably been asked loads but I wondered if I could get your thoughts on the following.

I am thinking of getting a new headset to go with on board sound card.
Firstly, do i really need a new sound card to make the best of a decent headset in the £200+ price band? On board sound has improved massively right?

If a sound card is recommended, what would people also recommend?

Secondly, what headset do people typically recommend at the £200+ price band? What do the esports types use or should I discount these as they are all sponsored anyway?

Finally, I am thinking a bit of you tubing may be on the agenda and I wondered if these £200+ type headsets will give audio quality or whether I should go for a separate headset and mic option? If so, what would people recommend?

Thank you for your help guys!

I wouldn't go off what your favourite esports team or player uses as like you say, they're all sponsored and will change their mind constantly.

I don't think you can go wrong with a £200+ budget, that's a hell of a lot of money to spend on a headset. On board sound is pretty decent now, especially if you have a decent motherboard.

If you've got that sort of budget I'd look at getting some decent headphones rather than a 'gaming headset'

Interested to know more...
I considered going with a blue yeti and decent headset, any recommendations?

I currently run a blue yeti with a pair of DT770 80ohm after recommendations on here.

Headphones and the yeti would still be within your budget with some change to spare :)

Though you could spend a little more and get a FiiO e10k from the rainforest to power your headphones even more and move away from onboard audio.

AKG K612 pro + modmic bundle = £115
Creative Sound Blaster Z (OEM) = £50

Cracking setup for £165

Can't go wrong with any of the vanilla AKG's or the K612.

598 is good if you can get it cheap but for £150 it doesn't have the soundstage and imaging of the K702, Q701 etc.

there is a 595 for sale in the members market - no box so asking price is high at £70.

i'd offer about £45-£50 for them though.

IMO you would be hard pushed to beat them for competitive gaming unless you went for AKG X7XX range

That would be easy for some but he's got to make up 800+ posts before he can think about getting into the MM ! :)

Best bet on this budget is as above k612 +modi mic or k702 modi mic and I'd advise get an asus soundcard will have faster better driver support.
If it were my money I'd knab a set of those open box nad viso hp50 for £140 or stretch to the philips fidelio x2 and worry about a mic later.
