I'm getting back into PC gaming now and I miss having positional audio for FPSs. Since moving into a flat and having the PC in the bedroom, the 5.1s have been press ganged into service with the TV in the living room. Meaning it's 2.1 only for the PC.

So I thought I'd take the plunge and invest in a decent headset that I can use for games. But, I'm completely overwhelmed by the options.

Basically, what I want from the headset:
- Quality: I'm no audiophile, but I'd like fairly decent quality. They will only be used for games. I still have the speakers for music. Sound cancellation probably isn't a major requirement, but handy to have I guess.
- Surround: I wasn't sure if surround headsets were a bit of a gimmick, but as my only option for surround sound at the moment, its the main thing I want from a headset. Either 5.1 or 7.1.
- Comfort: Really would like something I can wear for a couple of hours at a time. I'm spoilt by the Bose headphones in this regard, which are incredibly light and comfortable.
- Connectivity: I understand that there's a fair few USB headphones on the market now. I'd probably like to steer clear of those, mainly because I have a decent X-Fi soundcard, and it seems a waste not to make use of it. I probably won't use the headset with anything other than the PC, but it would be nice to be able to if needed.
- Microphone: Needs one. I want to get back into playing Red Orchestra tactically, so I need to be able to bark orders at people :D

Apart from that, I'm not really too bothered. I'm fairly flexible with the budget - I suppose I'd be willing to spend £50-60, but maybe a little more if there's something worthwhile just outside of budget.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

What's the general consensus on the Plantronics 780? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-013-PT&tool=3&page=2

Been reading some rave reviews and it seems to fulfil all my requirements aside from the fact it's a USB connection. But given the price, I'm thinking of taking a punt on them anyway.

Had a look at those Turtle Beach sets, but I'm not a fan of overly complicated setups with "zomg audio presets!!!!" etc. Plus an eye watering price. And the soundcard is staying as it will be used for the 2.1 speakers.

Sod it. Just seen a whole thread only a few posts down in this forum extolling the virtues of the 780s. I think I'll take a punt on them, otherwise I'll spend months deliberating and never actually getting anything.

Using Roccat Kave real 5.1 they sound superb... they also have vibration on the base, so when explosions happen the headset gives a nice vibration feeling.

Works very well, they has been reports of the headset feeling to heavy and uncomfortable but I dont find this to be true.
This falls under each to there own.

5.1 after using a corsair headset with 2.0 + virtual and worked superb I fort I would spend some money on a proper sound card and headphones. I picked the Asus xonar D2X and my got the difference between virtual 5.1 to real 5.1 is something worth trying.
