Hi all I am looking for some help to choose a new gaming headset I have up to around £200 to spend but there are so many to choose from.

My sound card is

Creative Recon3D Fatal1ty Pro

I am replacing Sennheiser PC350's as the mic is broken and the right side is now starting to cut however, this is after 5-6 years of heavy use.

I use Teamspeak 3 as the main communication tool during gaming.

Games I am mainly playing at the moment are Battlefield 4, Mechwarrior Online, World of Tanks, Planetside 2 and EVE Online.

I have been looking at the Corsair 2100's as the cable on my Sennheisers can be a pain as I have a young daughter and the layout of my desk means the cable is on the left side and the PC is on my right side, so wireless would be a nice option.

Other than that I really don't know were to start the Plantronics also look nice and I could stretch to £250 if they are really worth it?

Is 7.1/5.1 worth it and how does that work with my sound card given most of these seem to be USB?

The Razer Blackshark appeal as I am a former British Army Helicopter pilot however we wore full helmets so it is not the same.

Though overall asthetics do not matter to me, quality of sound and comfort over long sessions iare the most important factors.

Wireless would be nice but is not essential.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Hi chap I'm in a similar position . Got cash to spend and have been looking and reading reviews for ages.. Basically I'd convinced my self I was going to get some astro a40 s but seeing as I've got a soundcard in my system and after reading some not too good reviews I've decided against them. The sennheiser 363 d get some good reviews so I'm very tempted. A lot of people use the Siberia v2s but I'm not too keen...well that's my pence worth, hopefully somebody will help us out fella.

Thanks for your reply Neil shame there are no others.

Following further research and the fact that I was very happy with my Sennheiser 350's and they lasted a decent amount of time, I think I am going to get the 363d's it's a shame Overclockers don't sell them so I will have to find them elsewhere though not sure where i am going to get them yet.

Hello, I can't speak for the others but Sennheiser are really awesome. I bought a pair of HD595s about 7 years back and they are still top drawer for me. Amazing sound quality and built really well.

In comparison I have some of those DRE BEATS headphones, for about a year now, and they're already falling apart and rattling. They were both the same price! Insane.

I just bought a set of Sennheiser PC350SE's off the rainforest for £119.99.
For that kind of money I couldn't see anything better to spend it on (wanted closed back so I game with the wife in the same room).

So far I'm really liking them, though they really need time to burn-in, plus I think I need a headphone amp to get the most out of them (currently being driven from the heaphone out on my Logitech Z-5500 control module).

I've got a pair of 360s and they are AWESOME. I've had quite a lot of headsets over the past couple years (Steelseries Siberia, Roccat Kave, Turtlebeach Z6A to name a few) and nothing has come close to the sound quality of the 360s. They are so comfortable that I always forget I'm wearing them, the ear cups have a really nice material that I've not seen on many other headsts.

One thing though, they leak sound like a mother... due to being "open" headphones (if you compare the sides of it to your 350, it's a sort of "mesh" than covered by plastic)
If you don't like people near you hearing what you are doing, don't go for them. You can literally put them on your desk and do stuff on the computer and still hear pretty much everything. If that isn't an issue for you, then happy days! They don't leak a ridiculous amount of noise (i.e. you can't hear them through walls etc).

If you get the 363d... from what I've read, the virtual (read: crap) 7.1 surround sound isn't worth using. Just unplug the jacks from the sound card and use it as stereo which is a lot better quality.

i have a Corsair 2000 wireless head set and it is great. had the 1500 before them but the cable was annoying me. awesome head set for far less then the rest.

After loads of searching , reviewing and pulling my hair out id decided i was going to get some Sennheisers. Id decided to get the 363'3 but because ive got a soundcard in my pc i held off a bit thinking that you were paying a premium price just to get the mini sound box thing that powers them. Next id decided it was the 360's...but id looked at another set of sennhiesers through out my search and for some reason i kept going back to them. I liked the look and after reading the above quote i decided at that price it was a no brainer. Should be with me on Friday....hope ive made the right decision....

Recently bought some Astro Gaming A40's with the Mixamp

i'm a bit of an audiophile, and not normally keen on gaming headsets, but this things is amazing, 2 friends have tried it and loved it, still can't believe what i can hear in games, crazy!

Razer Tiamat 7.1 headphones. Soooo comfy, excellent control panel and retractable microphone plus 10 neodymium drivers for true 7.1 surround sound. Make a massive difference in fps games and the 2.0 mode when you disable 7.1 on the control panel makes them excellent for music and films also.

+1 and you can adjust the volume of each individual speaker and switch to external speakers by pushing a button on the headset control panel. . This is one of best features

Let us know how they go, I don't think you can really go wrong with Sennheisers. :p

just a quick one , when i got the 350 se's i expected them to be a bit bigger than what they are for some reason ...anyway ive only used them for about 2 hours so its hard to say if i like them or not my only problem is i was given an almost brand new set of hd 518's and if im honest they are the most comfortable headphones i have ever worn and at this moment in time i do prefer them to the 350se's. This is not to say i will give the 350's a right good go to see if i can get used to them if not i might just sell them and see if i can get some cash back...btw im using a xonar dgx and if anybody as any recommended settings to try i would be grateful..cheers

If you go with Razer, Steelseries, Corsair, Plantronics etc expect a downgrade in audio quality. The PC350/360 are probably the only actually good sounding gaming headsets since they're based on the HD555/558 which are high quality headphones.

My advice would be to avoid headsets as they're generally crap, buy some actual headphones and a mic.

Not astros! BOOM!

I would recommend to buy the Ultrasone Pro 900 which are very bassy headphones and sound amazing in games and also music such as drum and bass. They are expensive but If you are considering buying them I would try them first to see if you like the sounds or not. Also you could read a list of gaming headphones reviews on Mad Lust Envy’s which goes into detail.
