Howdy all,

I was wondering for the enthusiastic gamer, who've had a good reliable headset? Like many gamers, I like to be able to talk on voice comms also...but I've had bad experiences with gaming headsets breaking within 5 months or so.

My headset tonight felt like standing on it's last legs...1 side of it's earphones aren't working unless you tug away at the cable on the volume/mute switch...and from previous experiences, it usually kicks the bucket shortly after.

I have a spare Stereo USB Headset 20 by Logitech but I don't feel it's very comfortable.

Loved both my 'Sennheiser PC130 Headset & Microphone' (Which lasted 5 months) and my 'Plantronics Audio 90 - Headset. 40mm' (Can last 1-4 months...gone through 3 pairs). Both comfortable and decent sound quality.

I don't really treat them badly, no throwing around, just placed in the drawer after usage.

Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced headset suitable for gaming?

Many thanks in advance.

a lot of people like the Medusa 5.1's, they've got a really good sound quality and are very robust. Ive got a set, but I personally find them a bit too heavy on my head! I like the look of the Sennheiser PC160's.. not sure how reliably built they are though.

Sennheiser PC165's would be the best bet if you have the money to spare. However I recently switched to the Medusa's as recommended above from my Plantronics DSP500's which broke after about 2years and although can be uncomfortable after persistent use, the sound quality is immense and the price tag is astounding. So its up to you depending on your budget

i personally can vouch that the steelsounds are amazing and have great build quality mine have lasted over a year! and i'm just about to the get 5hv2 usb version!

I have the Senheiser PC160 headphones (or 165? whichever is not usb) and the sound is very good...I would give 9/10. The build is imo phenomenal. Also 9/10. Kids have thrown around my headset and ive found it under the chair and wrapped round random objects near my desk before and still works 100% as it should. I dont like the medusas. ive owned some and found them too heavy and the build was pants...part of the ear cover kept coming away. Plus shed load of wires to deal with etc. Dont be swayed by the gimmicky 5.1. They are just hassle imo. Cant beat good stereo 3d sound senhesiers. Improved my gaming in stuff like CS:S.

Plus good luck with RMA on Medusa's. my buddies emailed them numerous times, and 3 months down the line they are still yet to reply, plus they are really not that great.

I'm on Seinheisers to, mine are going strong, had about 6 - 8 months use so far, and they are still 100%.

I have the Senheisser PC160 I think (non USB) and although it may seem expensive, I am thankful I went for them as they have lasted for ages and have great build and sound quality. Plus they are comfortable after extended use, unlike the medusa's which I also have which are pretty heavy and will start hurting your neck after hours on the pc.

Had my usb medusa 5.1's for about 2 years. Still perfect, but after 4 or 5 hours get a bit uncomfortable.

Think I may well put my medusa's up on the marketplace or fleabay and get myself a pair of sennheiser PC160's, I just don't find the medusa's comfortable for 30 mins, let alone hours of use.

Medusa is so comfortable with me, and no I dont have a funny shaped head, I can only think that they are uncomfortable for you people because you have the earpieces lowered to much, which puts a lot of weight onto your ears and will cause aches and pains after long exposure, which has happend to me, and is how I know about this

Well i can vouch for the Plantronic DSP 400s or 500s. Had a set of 400s for 4 odd years and they were still working perfectly, just the foam on the earpieces was getting mank and decided to get the 500s. Had these 500s commin up a year and no problem whatsoever. I have stepped on the cable, dropped them u name it and they still work perfectly, there expensive but hey if they last then why not.

I've had my Sennheiser PC150's for a year, and they can definitely take being thrown around a bit. Lightweight and comfortable over long periods too.

Used my Plantronics DSP 500 for abot 2 years now. Been well abused with lan parties, dropped in beer, rolled over cable with chair and still going strong.

Best part is I won them free

Very much agree, bro's had a set since well before Xmas and he chews through headsets at rapid rate and yet these are still going 4 months on (thats good for him tbh  ) Had mine a short while and i find them very comfortable + well built. :)

I like the medusa's i find them v comfortable.
Dont get the usb Sharkoon Majestic 5.1 as they are really annoying. Drivers are a bit crap and you have to switch windows defaults to get your soundcard to work. Handy for gaming on a laptop though.

I have these too because they are well cheaper than 165s
The only difference between them is the USB!

Hope you don't mind me saying, your sig breaks the rules. A maximum size of 20KB is allowed. Here 's a link to a file just under 20kb if you want it.

Also, can anyone recommend a decent pair of headies for under £20?
