Well after playing Ut2004 for a few hours today and for about 3 hours each day this week I have developed a bruise on my fourth digit (the one that rests on A Key).

I have never ever had an injury at all related to gaming in 22ish years and am a keen UT player for almost 4 years now, and the recent sessions have been quite relaxed on my hands and definitely under less strain than they are used to.

The bruising is located around the middle joint of the digit and only appears on the underside. I was basically wondering has anyone developed similar injuries from such FPS games? It took me by surprised as I didnt realise it was bruised until I went to make myself some food! There is also no pain at all when touched. I can only think that it is the double tapping of the keys which ahas done this...as im thinking in gaems where a quick double tap isnt necessary this may not have happened.

Suffice to say I am taking a break from gaming and guitar for a few days :(

Get it checked by a doctor :) it may only look like a bruise, no-one on here can give advice really :)

Better to be safe than sorry.

Im a man, I dont ever go to a doctor ;)

But the q still stands..anyone have similar gaming injuries before :)

tendonitis. still have it.
linked to bad posture. excessive mouse ues (long work days) then going home and playing games/general computer use, then going off to band practice or a gig.

ended up with a very bad right hand and arm.
infact, my little finger + ring finger on my right hand feel cold at this very moment. should get back onto my stretching regime.

it could be serious. get it looked at. see a hysio. get some anti inflammatories. there is quite probably some internal damage that wont heal if it is swollen internally.

whenever left hand gets tired i use my right hand. To get used to it i use my right hand for work PC. dont want to risk getting RSI :D

Not really an injury so to speak but the right side of my mousing wrist got pretty sore for a while when I started playing CS 1.6 very heavily, due to rubbing accross my desk. Was funny though!

Whatever happened to light hearted banter...

Thats one of the most stupidist things i have ever heard, if you were infact being serious.

Its a well known fact that the many men do not go or even consider going to doctors when they are ill or injured...

I know for one that the gents I know (of various ages from 25-65) wouldnt dream of going to a doctor unless their lives depended on it. Reason being is that the service(NHS) is incompetency at its highest, I would love to get referred to a specialist by my GP but I would have to jump through so many hoops that it isnt worth tax payers money or time. Its much nicer and cheaper to get pampered at home by your other half. ;)

If I had private HI then I would be off to them in a flash and get the full BUPA check up :)

Snap. I was at a lan last weekend and I got a massive blister on the underside edge of my right hand/wrist. Was pretty painful actually. Now it's healed over and gone all hard and shiny. Much more effective :)

Indeed, like having a pro mousepad on your wrist :\

Also got them when me and my GF played WoW all the time (like, ALL the time), was quite sad really :o

Maybe when you can't move your finger for excruciating pain you'll go to the doctor? Ut and guitar playing days will be long gone, or maybe it'll just fall off.

Regardless, it's a medical thread so probably won't last long, the best advice anyone can give you is to go see your GP.

My arms have gone numb from leaning on the arm rests of my seat, playing CSS / Civ4. Usual sore wrist, stiff fingers. Occasional mental finger twitch.

Use computers at work as well, so have a lot of exposure to RSI sort of complaints..

Been playing the guitar long? You're probably a lot more likely to get a sore finger trying to hold down a difficult chord.

lol you hadn't devloped a hardcore mouse callous thats your problem, the ball of my right wrist is dragged around my desk so much that its completely smooth and shiny, you can almost see your face in it :D

Yes have been playing acoustic guitar for a few years now so know all about sore hands from demon barre chords! Although now the tips and joints of my fingers resemble a piece of very tough leather!

I did nto mean for this to move into a "medical thread" category..merely asked if other people had gaming related injuries and put foward an idea that maybe some games are more injury prone than otehrs (UT with the double tapping for example). IF you read the OP I didnt ask for medical advice But I guess some people ignore the original question and decide to answer an unmentioned question of their own!

I havent developed shiny palm syndrome ;) I think it may be because I only use small movements from my wrist and fingers when using the mouse. Although if people use much larger movements I can imagine that the skin will become quite worn down and shiny.

I sometimes get a bruise on the outside of the second joint on my left thumb from whacking the space bar in FPS games, and I have said callous on the heel of my right hand. It got so bad I now use a wrist rest on my mouse hand and just up the sensitivity so I don't need to spin about as much (I also find it better for fine aiming, as I am not dragging my hand across my desk, just tweaking the mouse with my fingers).
