Gaming keyboard and mice

Hi Folks,

I am thinking about changing my mouse and maybe getting a new keyboard. I currently have a generic logitech keyboard that's a bit past its best and a logitech G5 mouse or a steelpad 4d mouse mat. I find the mouse to be a little bit uncomfortable so am looking at my options to change it. I have never had a razor mouse before but their layout looks must better, what mouse should I be looking at that is comparative to the G5? I am looking really just for the same specs so 2000DPI etc.

Also, are gaming keyboard worth the extra cost? I am probably going to get a new keyboard but will I feel the difference by spending more on a gaming one. I mostly play fps's.

Have a look at the Razer Deathadder it's an excellent gaming mouse. As for a gaming keyboard it's not really worth it unless you want extra stuff like macro buttons etc.
 
I have an older version of the G5 mouse (MX510), had it for a few years now, if it ever breaks I will be getting another one in the series. They are excellent mice, weighty, well built, very comfy and responsive. I would advise a decent mouse mat with a good mouse though.

Keyboard...well I have a Saitek eclipse II keyboard...its your basic backlit keyboard really but the keys aren't tacky like so they are good to game on, and its well built too. The Logitech G15 keyboard looks a good choice, but pricey so you'd have to make sure you can make use of the macro keys and screen.
 
People say the new G15 is pants because they took back most of the macro keys and the orange is terrible, so based from that I went with the G11 and love it tbh.

The novely LCD screen doesnt appeal to me I dont think I would ever use it.
 
Gaming keyboards are a gimmick pure and simple.

I have owned them in the past (G15, Saitek efforts and the like), and I now use a £8 Microsoft 500 keyboard, it is just as good as the so called 'gaming keyboards', I honestly see no benefit from the fancy keyboards at all.

Gaming mice on the other hand are worth the cash, but only upto a point. I'd never spend £50-70 on a mouse, I have an MX510 (and an MX518) and they are perfect, i've used the laser mice, and in all honesty I can't tell the difference. It is far more important to find a mouse that you like the shape of and fits your hand comfortably imho.
 
Erm, the G15 has ultra soft keys which are amazing to type on.

I haven't seen anything that even comes close tbh

The G11 is good, a compromise between normal keyboards and the g15 (basically they have used what i regarded as a useless screen on the keyboard itself) but you keep all the funky macros (very useful for citing stuff in my dissertation :D) and the awesome volume control wheel.

This is my problem I think, all in all the G5 works fairly well but I just find it a bit uncomfortable. I think it's the way it's designed sloping away to the right, I think I'd prefer just a regular "flat topped" mouse really.
 
The keys on the G15 are easilly the nicest I have used to be honest. It feels so much nicer than any other keyboard I tried..

Trouble with these threads is everyone will just recommend what they have :) Logitech G15 and G5 here..

Ps, Logitech has AWESOME customer service for RMA etc. Have a search around for threads about it. They really are good.

... Will never look back after purchasing these 2 together. Absaloutely wonderful upgrade, and the on-the-fly sensitivity settings are really useful in-game. All very smooth, and very comfortable. Recommended
 
I have a G15(old school one) and Boomer combo, the Boomslang is an awesome mouse for people with big hands, I've been hankering after a new one since my last Boomslang 2000 died a few years ago. Thanks god for the CE !
 
At this point I have to say, I have big hands and I still found the boomslang an awkward mouse to use... So it isnt for everyone, dont assume if you have big hands it will work well for you...

Best advice is go to a shop which has them for sale.. and have a play, see what fits :)

As i said above, people will post what they use :) I could say I think my g5/g15 combo is the best but without trying everything else who knows. I have tried a copperhead and a boomslang from razer and they dont work for me, but they do for others...

Oh, dont buy a microsoft habu, I got one and there is a problem with the way they attach the cable to the mouse, i had 4 replacements before i just got fedup and got another mouse..
 
I've had a Deathadder and a Saitek Eclipse for a while now, the eclipse has just broken though and I'm going to replace it with a normal keyboard. I wouldn't replace my Deathadder because its brilliant but I think gaming keyboards are far less necessary.
 
i use a G7 Carbon with the Razer Control mat and like them both. However i still wish logitech had kept two mouse buttons on the side like the mx510etc had :(
 
I have G5 mouse and a G15 keyboard. I really like my G15 keyboard. I don't use the macro keys, but I find the screen very useful at times such as playing music. It is very comfortable too, and they have got the colour of lighting right. I had a Saitek Eclipse (blue) before and I always had to turn off the LEDs because they were just too bright, even if I was staring at my screen I would find them distracting. Whereas the G15 is perfect.
