Gaming keyboard for £20-£50

personally i go down the route of standard keyboard it think gaming ones are just to bgi and bulky and for eveyrday use for me that isnt any good
but with anything like this its all personal taste over eveyrthing else

Thanks for the great replies, the Saitek II and III keyboards look nice, so does the Saitek Cyborg.

I was wondering if there are any gaming keyboards with a Green backlight or green colour, Along with the themes of the Razer green. Or that if the Saitek III Has a green backlight option. As the Razer Diamondback and Razer mats (the green ones, i'd link the specific mouse mat i mean but i dont think OCUK has them so ill send them an email to see if they have it) i feel look amazing, and to get a matching set of green would be mind blowing for me, as well who doesnt like their desktop to look the part as well as be the part?

To the person who was saying about the windows multimedia keyboards, i already have one (the one that comes with the 2000 desktop set) and i am currently having problems with it and it is basicly dying. I also want a wired one and a keyboard that i can hold more than 3 keys down and then push another so it would register as that is generally my playstyle with games. I also feel that my current keyboard and mouse is unresponsive.

Thanks for all the replies, you've all made a hard decission even harder now ^.^ good thing i like a challenge!

I just tried on my Cyborg and you can set the entire keyboard to green, I thought you could, there is quite a few colours to choose from.

No need to buy an expensive keyboard, all this about £50, absolutely pointless. A keyboard is a keyboard, and as an FPS all that matters is that you can hold down 5 or 6 keys in a row.

Personally, without tooting my horn, I'm a fairly high level CS player, and knowing other 'professional' cs players, all seem to just use a standard microsoft multimedia keyboard, normally available for about £15 tops.

I used to think the same and used £5 max serial/ps2 keyboards for around 10 years (also playing high level FPS), but to be honest I don't think £50 is too bad considering:

1) It will last for years
2) You use it nearly all the time
3) Extra touches like LCD display are nice (e.g. having cpu/ram monitor open all the time)

I'm not saying posh keyboards are any better for gaming, just that compared to the money that gets spunked elsewhere on computers (even ignoring the core components, people are laying down £100+ on cases etc) it's not that big an outlay. I got a G15 around a year ago and I still haven't used the macro buttons once... I just like the fact it's USB, can handle multiple keypresses, has a USB hub, looks cool, I like the jog wheel and the cpu/ram monitor etc.

It's just one of those rare times I decided to treat myself and get a 'luxury' item.

that is true but sometimes you have to admit where you want more for your money 50poudsfor a keyboard which is simialr to a cheaper one but the exspensive one has a lcd screenyou have to admit is it worth it?

I've had the G15 pretty much since it was released, and it's amazing. If you like playing MMO type games, the macro keys are brilliant and easy to program. For FPS games, it's comfortable and responsive. Also, the little LCD screen is pretty handy; anything from in game info to media player info is shown on it.

The G19 looks even beter though, but that would be tripple your budget.

I used to have the saitek eclipse but I wouldn't buy another one after the experience I had after cleaning it. Washed the keys and they pretty much dissolved in warm soapy water.

No doubt cheap keyboards do the job just as well I just find it essential to have my keyboard keys illuminated as I hate having it too bright in my room. Depends what you want some peope wear loafers some wear air max for me the styling matters.

Some people swear by the IBM Model M (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M_Keyboard) which is very much a product of function over form. I place form pretty highly since I spent time to make my pc looking good I wouldn't want that sat on my desk :D

the keys on the tarantula are awesome, i don't use any of the macros etc

it's just really nice to type on :), and comfy too
