I'm trying to decide on what keyboard to buy. I curretly have a Microsoft Basic Keyboard 1.0, and well its Crap! :D

I have been looking at things like the

Logitech G13 Advanced GameBoard and Saitek Cyborg Command Unit etc..

Has anyone had any experience with using something like this over a standard keyboard? I mainly play FPS games.

Budget is around £100 so If I buy a game board or similar I will need to still get a cheaper keyboard within the budget.

Ideas and comments please!

I've been using the Belkin n52te for ages and swear by it. Took a bit of getting used to but is worth it because its so damn comfortable!

Something like that was what I first had in my mind, however what makes it so brilliant?

The LCD is not really needed and I am not in need of hundreds of programmable keys so when I sat and thought about it £90 sounds allot really for a keyboard that has both of those as some of it's main features and I'm not going to use them...

The main thing I am interested in are things like the key spacing/size etc and how they are for playing FPS games. I know on my current and past keyboards I have always had smaller keyboards and find myself pressing the wrong keys in game.

How does something like the Saitek Cyborg V5 compare to the Logitech keyboards?

Would still be interested to hear opinions of people with a Logitech G13 Advanced GameBoard, Razer Nostromo Gaming Keypad or something similar and are they any good for FPS...

Do you use it for FPS games? I assume most of the comfort is down to the wrist padding and the angle of the keys.

Am I right in thinking that the Razer Nostromo Gaming Keypad is now the replacement for the belkin?

Yeah, I play TF2, BC2, CoD, Borderlands etc etc on it and have no problems. You can sometimes even get away with some RPG's although the lack of access to F1-F12 and the number keys is a bit anoying. Just need some creative binding (I use all 8 positions on the D-Pad as hotkeys for spells/abilities in DA:O for example)

And yeah, the angle of the keys, the wrist rest and the distance between the rest and the keys is where the comfort comes from; I've had 12-15 hour sessions and not had any pain or discomfort on that hand. Wish I had something similar for my mouse as I get really bad RSI in my right wrist!

The Belkin is exactly the same as the Razer one, but the Razer can store 5 more profiles or something. Exactly the same number of keys and drivers etc (the Belkin drivers actually say "Powered by Razer" all over them) but the Belkin is £10~ cheaper and doesn't have the Razer logo on it.

Hope that helps.

If you're more bothered about keyboard layout than macros etc, I'd highly recommend the Merc Stealth. Very good for FPS. Think they're around £60 these days. Only bad things about it is the size (if you've got a small desk) and if you're typing.
I love it though. :D

Oo, might invest with one of these when i get my new computer later this year :D currently using a G11, and as i got it for £33 in april 2010, it lasts a while and works all the time, also got it because of the blue backlighting :D

I very much like my G13. It's very comfortable during gaming sessions, and you can assign macros to any of the keys. Has loads of buttons (22 for fingers, 2 thumb and a joystick, also for the thumb) and multiple profiles. Also allows you to use a nice keyboard for typing (I use an Apple-esque keyboard for typing as I like flat keys with little travel), while I find gaming keyboards uncomfortable to type on. The LCD is a little unnecessary, but that's Logitech...

The Razer Nostromo is the apparent replacement of the Belkin, but you can still get the Belkin for ~£35, which is a bargain frankly.
