Had a look around this site, and some manufacturers sites but cant seem to find the answers on the macro capabilities of some of these keyboards so was hoping someone could help! :)

Do they just 'record' keystrokes and then play them back or can they record mouse actions too?

Can they record a keystroke with a modifier held down? (Like shift or alt for example)

Thanks :)

The G11 records as many keystrokes as you can enter into it with recording. It can also detect mouse clicks but you have to add these to the macro specifically. It won't detect if you move the mouse though :p

i have the new g15 and it can recognise shift in the macro

You can record them on the keyboard aswell,

press the macro record button, then press the macro button wanted, then enter key strokes then press the macro record button and your done

Key strokes and mouse clicks are fine though as Infam0us said it won't detect mouse movement. You can use the macro record button to set up quick ones but for adding modifiers and such and still ensuring it works properly it might be better to edit them manually. But yeah should be fine.

If you want logitech has a timing setting for the macros so if you it instant press settings or delay settings so that you can type 2 keystrokes with delay so 'h' and 'i' with a 5 sec delay but your going to have to do the timings yourself manually :P

Sounds good. I can cope without mouse movement no problems :)

Could someone confirm that *** G15 can use ALT and/or CTRL as a modifier for macro's? As in it can record ALT+s for example.
Thanks

You won't regret it, the LCD comes in handy for stuff too. I use Miranda IM to be able to talk in msn/yahoo etc without having to alt tab while gaming (you can view the conversations on the lcd panel and use keys near the media buttons to send messages/navigate your contact lists etc).
