Are they really worth the money over non-gaming ones?

I've got a Logitech G11 at the moment but i want a new one, any gamers recommend a good one?

Currently looking at the Logitech G110 and the Steelseries shift, any opinions on those two?

I hate half height enter keys which severly limits the range i can look at!

Have a g19, waste of money, only used the screen for being alerted of whispers in wow when tabbed about.

Macro keys are awkward if you play MMOs in pvp, used for buffs at most really.

i got the cyborg v.5 the other day and have no complaints, love the backlight its nice to play in the dark sometimes!

forgot to mention this in my post, this is a huge plus of gaming keyboards or any that are backlit i find, generally know where all the keys are by feel but it can help a lot.

Funnily enough, I really like the G11! It's robust enough, plenty of customisation (mainly useful for when I'm word processing). It is looking quite dated nowadays though.

What more are you looking for in a keyboard? That should help us recommend something.

Maybe worth it if you're going to get a use from macro keys and backlight. Personally, I don't need those functions so the cost over a standard Logitech isn't worth it.

I can see the point of a gaming keyboard for the lighting and adding the finishing touch to your rig.

But I have never used a macro key in my life! The sidewinder x4 looks good if you just want a sweet looking board with no faff.

Gaming keyboards = pleh! (well, imo anyway :)).

Have a look at the Logitech Illuminated or something like the one I just picked up, tis awesome (linkage).

I use the Saitex Eclipse the blue illuminated one. Thinking of chaning soon though as it has seen better days, tempted by the logitech one, but it seems a lot of money for a keyboard :(

I just recently got a Sidewinder X4, not very impressed with it but it's better then the G11 I used to have.

Imo they are worth it for:

The looks (if you into it)
Backlight keys
Superior Media controls then most keyboards
The Size + quality

Yeah, it depends. They're a waste to me, since I don't want the extra media controls, dislike the lot more space they take up, and couldn't care less about the backlights etc.

I'm happy as can be gaming on my Leopold FC200RT :)

Quite like my g19, got some apps for diff games, some are built in, can watch utube, webcam feeds, films, play music etc thru it when gamin. :)

I have a cherry infinity ( a non gaming keyboard!). I somewhat regret buying it, it looks nice, but seeing as I game a lot at night, I wouldn't have minded backlit keys. Plus despite owning for 6 months+ I don't think I could touch type, I think because the sleek low profile keys don't me any guidance.
I will probably sell up and upgrade later in the year, and next time I will go for something like the x4 if I am feeling cheap or the Razer blackwidow/ steelseries 7g if I am feeling flush.

Personally I love the keys on the razor keyboards. But I don't see the point in gaming keyboards particularly outside of MMO's. I just buy a keyboard that I like to type on.

The marco keys on the g15 are great, only recently it occured to me that instead of always typing in my logins/password i just assign it to a key and hey presto 1 button push and instant access.

I use the G15 and wolfking. Actually the wolfking for gaming, the G15 for typing and additional headup info (time mostly or K:D ratio in BFBC2). Wolfking has an extra useable key while not taking your pinkies away from aswd and was £10.
