Gaming Laptop £1,500 Budget

Problem is, if anything goes wrong you'll have to ship it back to the US which...for a weighty package, certainly adds up.
Given these are enthusiast machines, you've gotta be prepared. Europe rather than the US would be a much more sensible place to look outside the UK.

That's a fair point do you know any European resellers by any chance ? Googled it but came up with old results from 5 years ago. Although I'll probably be willing to take the risk if the price difference is considerable which it has been everywhere I've looked.

As for getting it from the USA it saves me anywhere from £500-1000. (If I avoid the import tax) but I believe that isn't a problem with something coming in from the EU ? which would definitely make it an easier sell.

I believe you might have to pay VAT if its from within the EU, but thats it. I remember seeing elsewhere you pay that countries rate, but honestly best to check up on that.

Clevo wise, the main ones in the UK are Kobalt, who I got mine from, and in Germany I believe it is MySyn and Deviltech. Could be wrong there though!

Been watching this tread closely as no replys in mine, the MSI's are a good price but I hate the look of them, very tacky to me!

I prefer minimalistic, so I've decided to order the XMG P501 from MYSYN in a couple of weeks, taking a risk getting it from DE but oh well!

I wish I could find some in depth reviews of these from users first hand or videos but no such luck! :(

I know it's a risk ordering from the USA but one I'm willing to take for the same price £2200 I'd have gotten a single 485M/6GB RAM/2 smaller HDD's and no SSD and as I'm willing to pay that much might as well get my value out of the system rather than paying £3000+ to get one from over here.

Thankfully I have family over there who will receive the package and ship it over to me (lying about the value of course) so hopefully I get away with that. Will let you know when I receive it :) as I'll be ordering later tonight

Don't mean to go off topic (well, I do) but was looking at one of the laptops linked and I just have to say, LOL:

Enjoy, its about as beasty a laptop as you're going to get right now...just don't expect it to be light, have anything beyond about 40mins battery life :D

Performance should be nice though!

I better enjoy it. Well I'll soon find out just put my order in should be with me by the end of the month.

Yeah those are two things I'll just have to accept 40 minutes battery life that's more than acceptable the laptop I'm using atm can't last more than 15 without a charge it's so old. :D I'll be shocked if I'm not bouncing around my living room when it arrives.

Just for anyone whose interested my order with the Laptop specs above didn't go through so I ordered another one on the 20-21st February.

The order shipped out 4 days ago for next day to my relatives house and I just received the package this morning! and had a days stop in customs guess I'll have to find out whether or not I get stung post delivery as has happened before but they didn't declare the value over £300 So it will be a hit if they get back to me but that's not even 15% of it's actual value so I don't mind a £40-80 pound sting. To avoid paying well over £800-1200 more to have bought it in the UK.

The Specs I ended up going with were the following (below). I haven't opened it up yet but I'm looking forward to doing so! luckily this has just got to me before I have to go abroad (5 days time) so looks like I won't need to lug around a 360+Monitor + A seperate crappy laptop to get the job done for all my needs!

Now I know it's overkill but seeing as I'm getting a nice influx of money considering my age atm why not treat myself!

Should do you proud. Thats about as good a mobile workstation platform as you can get right now; and given it uses desktop CPUs its not going to be outpaced any time soon :)

I'd expect 3Dmark Vantage GPU scores in the region of 20-25k :)

If I can get a good 2nd hand trade value I'm almost tempted to upmarket when the X8100's successor comes along, if its got the 6970ms. Depends on cost though, and I couldn't justify a tricked out x7200 at all, especially with general laptop costs in Europe compared to the US.

I wouldn't bother with buying from the US because of possible delivery costs incase of needed warranty work; but in your case, even if you spend a bit having to send it to and fro its likely to have been worthwhile.
