Currently have my eye on these 2;

The only difference being 8gb vs 16gb, the 8gb though has a 128gb SSD for the extra £80. I think I'd see more benefit from the ssd.

Or is there a better alternative around this price?

Edit -- just added this Gigabyte to the list, better GPU and cpu appears to be similar performance to the MSI

When gaming the gpu is nearly always going to be the bottleneck not the cpu and in a laptop upgrading the gpu when the latest and greatest game comes up can be an expensive nightmare. So IMHO you should buy the Gigabyte.

FYI I recently bought a Clevo P150sm-a laptop, with a i7 4710MQ 2.5HZ with turbo boost to 3.5GHZ, 16GB Ram and Nvidia 970m 6GB. Has ran The Evil Within, Wolfenstein New Order, Mad Max and Just Cause 3 without issue :)

Thank you, it's what I was thinking too although I thought replacing the GPU in laptops was pretty much impossible, but not had one for a very long time.

Have ordered it now as can't spot anything near that spec for the similar price.

Some manufacturers solder the gpu/cpu to the mobo so you can't upgrade. Depending on the laptop you can upgrade the gpu if it's MXM configuration and the motherboard bios support it. It's expensive to do and laptop gpu's are hard to come by in UK.

Head over to notebook review forums for tips and tricks for getting the most out of your laptop. I found info on flashing mobo/gpu bios so I could overclock.

I'd recommend when gaming to prop up the back of laptop to allow the hot air to escape easier, to keep temps under control, I bought a cheap X shaped plastic stand from auction that works a treat and folds up easily. Also put the fans on max and headphones on to drone out noise :D
