Hi all, i posted previously regarding speccing a desktop but have since decided there is not sufficient space in our house for 2x desktop pc setups.

Ive decided ill go portable since i can always attach the laptop to a monitor if required.

Im not looking for a huge powerhouse of a laptop hence the budget, just something reasonable for the money that will be capable of playing games like World of warcraft etc.

I did read somewhere that there are a few new laptop releases due this month? So if prices are due to fall slightly then im willing to wait a while to get the most for my money ofc.

Also to note: I know places like ****ys arent a usual haunt by any means, but the company i work for offer a 7% discount with them so not sure if its worth me checking?

Again many thanks for any / all replies, much appreciated.

Also found the below:

  • Intel® Core™ i7-9750H Processor
  • RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB
  • Full HD screen / 144 Hz
HP Omen 15.6"

confused lol

If you're getting the HP Omen for under a grand that's a good deal, better than the one I posted and the MSI. The advantage of the AMD Ryzen 4xxx systems is that they have very good battery life and excellent performance for the price. The HP Omen is using last year's Intel processor so the battery life isn't as good but probably not a lot in it performance wise and if you're just using at home that doesn't matter anyway. The RTX2060 is better than the 1650 and 1660Ti too.

I'm in the same boat now and I'm holding out for the Asus TUF A15 FA506IU. Can be had for £950.

Specs are:
AMD Ryzen 5 4600H
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
8gb RAM
512GB SSD
144hz IPS 15.6'' screen

The CPU seals the deal for me.

OP, as you mention you were considering a desktop, how about a 17 inch laptop?

I've been looking for something for the kids to hook up to a switch when game recording, and for me to create training materials when working away, watch a movie and play a bit...so slightly bigger works for me.

So, similar to DanTheMan's suggestion, a version of this is what I'm thinking:

www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-tuf-fa706ii-nvida-gtx-1650ti-8gb-17.3-fhd-ryzen-r5-4600h-metal-grey-gaming-laptop-lt-2a0-as.html

I've been considering Asus, HP Omen and MSI but I'm somehow drawn to this. Plus points include Ryzen chip in this along with the easily upgradable ram and spare HD slots.

  • Screen Type:
    17.3" FHD IPS Level
    1920*1080 Resolution 60hz
  • Processor:
    AMD® Ryzen™ 5 4600H Processor 3.0 GHz (8M Cache, up to 4.0 GHz)
  • Graphics:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti Graphics Card with 4GB GDDR6
  • Storage:
    512GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  • Memory:
    8GB DDR4 3200mhz (1 x 8GB)
An extra £300 upgrades the screen, chip, ram, graphics and storage:
  • Screen: 17.3" FHD 120Hz IPS Level Anti-Glare, 1920*1080
  • Processor:
    AMD® Ryzen™ 7 4800H Processor 2.9 GHz (8M Cache, up to 4.2 GHz)
  • Graphics:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti with Max-Q Design
  • Storage:
    1TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
  • Memory:
    16GB DDR4 3200mhz (2 x 8GB)

I'm also looking into this as my current laptop is a non-repair job so seeking a refund.
I think I want to go down the 4600H or 4800H processor route as it seems a no brainer. I've looked into the Clevo style laptops which utilises the desktop processors.

A high Street store has a Asus TUF A15 with the 4800h 16gb ram and gtx1660ti available now for next day delivery for £999 at the moment

I'm tempted to hold off for a different manufacturer. I'm still trying to get my money back from a non-repairable Asus laptop which I had for less than a year.

There is a MSI GF65 with a i7-9750h, 120Hz screen and 2060 for £999 at the minute. Tempted myself but suspect a new 4800H laptop will not be far off that.
