Hi All,
Looking to get a gaming laptop for my son for Xmas, looking around £500 spend, any suggestions for a decent laptop that would play COD, Red dead and similar games.

Many Thanks for any advice

I'd spend a bit more . For that you'll get igp which for igp are decent are ok but not for medium range gaming.

I have Ryzen laptop mobile with igp and it's good but it's more suited to wot and war thunder which aren't demanding.

As above, anything in that price range will get you integrated graphics or at best a 2050 graphics which isn't great. If you could stretch to £600-650 it's worth it as you can pick up decent gaming laptops, especially on a black friday deal. I have seen some laptops with RTX 4050's around that kind of price.. They are far more powerful and would play those games very nicely.

I do think the 4050 underrated. Just shame the lack of VRAM or would be an amazing budget choice.

Is there any reason why it has to be a laptop?

Is it to double up for school work or is its primary function going to be for gaming?

Reason I ask is that in games like CoD or red dead at £500 a console is going to outperform the laptop.

For £500 using some new and used parts you can build a desktop pc that’ll match the ps5 for performance.

Desktop parts out perform the smaller laptop equivalent - if a laptop says it has a 4060 for example, the desktop 4060 will beat it, they’re not exactly the same.
