Hi guys,

With my girlfriend spilling a cup of coffee over her laptop, the insurance company have asked us to quote for a new one to replace it as they are unable to repair the laptop lol.

What would be the best laptop for games i could get her for between 800 and 900? Most of the laptops i have seen come with 8600M gfx card. Been hearing that its a bit rubbish for games, is that the case?

She only plays world of warcraft at the moment but once warhammer comes out i am sure she is gonna want to make the move as she is getting into mmorpg lol, was proper anti computer before we got together, corrupted :>

Any advice appreciated.

Check out Zepto, special deal on at the mo :) 8600M GT 512MB on the Gamer 3415W.

Well i just not sure if that is a good card or not? been reading on a lot of threads that you need to upgrade it to a 7950GTX or something for games?

Could get this spec otherwise i think:

Processor Type - Intel Core 2 Duo T7800 (Santa Rosa)
Processor Speed - 2.6GHz Dual Core CPU
RAM - 4GB DDR2 (limited by 32-bit OS to around 3GB usable)
Hard Drive - 250GB
Display - 17 inch TFT display
Widescreen Type - WXGA (1440 x 900)
Video Chipset - nVidia 8600MGS NB8P-SE
Video - RAM 256MB Dedicated
Optical Drive - DVD/RW
Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Wireless LAN - Built in Wireless LAN 802.11g 54Mbps
Weight - Kg 3.6

£849 ex vat which i assume would be case for an insurance company.

for games i would strongly recommend the 8700M 512mb at minimum!!! They clock extremly well with almos no temperture increase. mines clocked at 750 / 945 .. And i can run Crysis at 30Fps.. all on high setting except shadows (1024 x 768 2xAA). And my CPU is a bit limited.

Might want 4GB for Vista tho.

Hmm will take a look for one with that card then. Need to find one fast so can sort this insurance out, its taken over a month and g/f keeps kicking me offa my pc in the meantime :P

Anyone else got an input? are these dell vostro good for games?

The 2400 is bottom of the range Radeon.. so unlikely.. Really the best thing around at the moment is the 8700m.. there is some talk of a 8800 m due out next year but dont expect it to reach the power of its desktop counterpart.. they never do

Already out on some laptops, but you'll never find one for £900 with an 8800M GTX...

Well thats my imaginary budget i gave myself, the insurance company dont really seem to know what they are doing. The guys who picked our laptop up and tried to repair recommended replacing our 700 quid laptop with the flagship sony vaio rofl. Guess the insurance company can recognise a 2k pricetag tho, even if they cant read tech sheets.

So just need something i can get away with quoting really. Mine had dedicated gfx, core duo etc. Figure i can find one without stuff i didnt use like a tv tuner but make them aware of fact its lacking some stuff and that wld make up for it with bigger screen etc. No idea how this all works but gotta be worth a try eh :)
