I have a few questions.
How old is the daughter? What size Screen? Does he plan to travel a lot with it?
Neither Roblox and Fornight are very gourmand when it comes to system resources, so I don't think you need a very beefy rig. Something around a RTX4060 GPU would be your sweetspot. Thats plenty of power for now and some flexibility for later. I wouldnt go past 1500 pounds budget as its overkill unless you want a really big screen (and you can always just use an external monitor with a HDMI cable).
You are likely looking at a 1500 pound laptop...TOPS. Higher than 1500 is overkill. I would stay away from last gen too, it might be slightly faster but you'll miss out on a lot of the newer tech found on the RTX4xxx series. Avoid the RTX4050 its significant performance drop isn't worth the money you'll save.
So the real question is how big you want it vs how light you want it.
I am going to assume that the child is the same age as my daughter (around 10) and still somewhat accident prone. You'll want something decent...but not too expensive if someone spills a soda over it. Better to lose 800 than 3000 pounds.
The ASUS TUF A15 is pretty good. Its only gripe is a 15" so-so display. It's FHD not QHD. Meaning it won't have ultra-high resolutions but given we are talking about a child's first laptop, it's not the end of the world.
The Lenovo LOQ is another option but its 200 pounds although it used a Intel CPU vs whereas the A15 uses a AMD. (Personal preference here: Intels perform better in general, but AMD is easier on the battery). Its not worth 200quid IMHO. I'd go with the A15.

Now if you are willing to put abit more money into it, you could look at either the Asus Zepherus G14 or the soon to be released Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14" (currently available at Lenovo Directly).
They are more expensive, around 1200-1300 pounds, however in both cases you get a MUCH better OLED WQXGQ monitor (Lenovo) or QHD+ LED (ASUS). These are 14" laptops, so they are slightly smaller
but in all honesty, you won't notice the difference much. The other difference is that they are both lighter at less than 4lbs each (as opposed to over 5 lbs for the cheaper models). It is so much easier to carry around if you travel. A extra pound less is a big difference for a commuter.
Keep in mind though that smaller laptops are more susceptible to heat, and less tolerant of damage, but quality speaking they are vastly superior due to their much better display. And Again ASUS prefers AMD CPUs while Lenovo prefers INTEL

Of the 2, I think the Lenovo is ever so slightly better because it uses a OLED display (the Dell uses a LED). However, word of caution about the Lenovo Legion Slim 5. Its 16 RAM is all soldered and cannot be upgraded. 16GB is all you get. There is a 32GB RAM version for an extra 50 quid more but its only available directly from Lenovo. There is
NO possibility to upgrade the RAM on this model. ASUS G14 go not have this problem as they have an extra memory slot. If upgradability is important to you, you might prefer the ASUS G14.
