Gaming Laptop for uni

Hey,

What do you guys think of this? I don't know anything about laptops so hopefully you guys can help. Budget approx. £450

Laptop 1 (£400):
Intel® Core™ i3-380M Dual Core (380M, 3MB Cache, 2.53 GHz)
RAM 6GB (DDR3)
Graphics Dedicated (NVIDIA® GeForce® 315M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory)

Laptop 2 (£495, don't really want to have to stretch this far though):
Processor : Intel Core i7-2630QM (2.00GHz, 6MB cache, Quad Core) with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (1 DIMMs)
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M Graphics card

I'm looking to buy BF3 when it comes out and was hoping to play on low-med settings.

With that budget you are probably best looking for a L502x on the dell outlet. You should be able to pick up an i5 with a 540m gpu for around £400

I'm looking on the dell outlet but the cheapest one comes to £425 with only an i3 (after that there is an i7 but that's too expensive). Is it definitely much better value compared to the one I posted before?

If you can up the budget by £100 you can get an XPS17" with an i5, 4GB RAM and an GT550M

Hi, you need to remove the link to the competitor in the first post please.

However, that is not a gaming machine and BF3 may not run on low.

That graphics card only hits 3k 3D marks 06 and is actually quite a fair bit worse than the new integrated intel HD 3000 graphics.

What's your opinion on the Inspiron 15R N5110?:

Processor : Intel Core i7-2630QM (2.00GHz, 6MB cache, Quad Core) with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz

I am always confused when people talk about needing a laptop for uni - why can't you being your desktop?

I doubt you are realistically going to bring it to lecture/ tutorials.

As part of my accomodation agreement I have to clear out at the end of each term (10 weeks) and go home so I don't to have to carry my desktop + monitor around :P

Sounds liked a good spec, check out some videos of the 525m in action on youtube to give you a good idea how it will run.

How much is that by the way?
