Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help me, I am looking to have a laptop as my main PC due to a change in family situation.

I would like to be able to play games on it mainly F1 2010 or 2011 (when it comes out)

I am finding it hard to find a decent 15" gamer friendly laptop anywhere:confused::confused::confused:

I have this as a spec which I can buy

  • 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz English Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
  • 15.6"(40 cm) HD WLED TL (1366x768) 720p with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera
  • 4096MB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
  • 8x DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
  • 500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
  • 6-cell 56Whr Lithium Ion battery
  • 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card

I cant seem to find anyone offering a 15" laptop with a better GPU???

Also I will probably run it through a 22" LCD screen (mainly when using it for games)

So my question is twofold, will this spec run the game well (even on my external monitor)?

If not where can I get a better spec 15" laptop from?

Or is what I am looking for just not possible, I'm not worried about battery life as if would be plugged into the power when gaming

I'm pretty green to laptop stuff, so if what I have asked is stupid  then please forgive me.

Cheers

What is your budget? My situation is similar, we moved i have no place for my main pc so i am moving to laptop,i am thinking long term and so far i have specced an alienware m17x for £1669.00 i just got to force myself to press buy.

It's all dependant on your budget mate. Going by the spec you've posted it sounds like a dell XPS, especially with the graphics card. The GT540M isn't fantastic, but should run most games at medium settings.

You can get the likes of the MSI GX660R for just under a £1000 and offer a lot better spec than above, i.e. a much better graphics card. Or go all out and get something like an M17X or M18X from Alienware for a quite substantial amount of money. It's just how much money you want to throw at it.

This is the MSI, great value for what you get (In a gaming laptop sense, not compared to buying a PC)

Well I'm getting all that spec from Dell for £599 inc VAT and delivery :), but I would happily pay up to another £100 if I can get a better graphics card, any help:confused::confused:

Cheers
