Basically looking to get a new laptop and will be starting to use it for gaming.

Want the best value for money I can get, was looking to spend £1000 really but would stretch to around £1300 if I was getting more bang for my buck and the laptop was pretty future proof.

Was looking at the GT60 Dominator but was unsure if it was worth the money (I'm pretty much a noob here). The thing that was putting me off it was the lack of SSD with it. I'm guessing that the i7 4810MQ it comes with is better than the i7 4700MQ range that most laptops in the same price budget generally come with?

Any recommendations on what I should go for?

It's a bit out of your budget (currently £1399.99 on the site), but have you considered the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro? IMO even though it's more on the portability side, personally I find it absolutely fantastic and on the performance side of things, it doesn't disappoint. Even though this one does have the slightly lower rated 4700HQ CPU, I can't see it being a lot different than the 4810MQ in real time general day to day use.

Not only that, but the GS70 Stealth Pro also comes with the same GTX 870M graphics card & a 128GB SSD as standard :)

Yeah I had looked at it, I wasn't certain it was worth paying an extra £300 or so for a inferior processor & just a 128GB SSD added in (I know the screen is bigger aswell but that's not so important for me).

Hi Mclean10...

Best value and on budget for you is the Gigabyte P35K.

Added value over the MSI Stealth model;

2 x 128SSD (+ 1TB HDD of course)
Blue Ray writer
16GB ram

With the Gigabyte you are getting much more flexible unit. Did you know;

Pioneered Hot Swappable ODD/HDD Slot Design

The ingenious design of hot swappable ODD/ HDD slot* from the GIGABYTE team gives gamers many choices to choose from. Your options are a DVDRW drive or a Blu-ray drive or additional 1TB HDD storage or slot in an empty case to maximize portability and travel light...

Wins on all fronts, not just price.

I just ordered a Gigabyte P34G V2, handy if you need to travel like me and don't want too much weight to lug around.

But if for home use then go with one with a bigger screen and min GTX 860M or 870M

The Auros range looks great but outta your budget.

Its not as cheap, but the build quality on the GS60 stealth pro will definately beat the gigabyte. that said, the gigabyte offers better value due to the plastic nature of it!

For bang for buck, dont look at the ultrabook models like the p35W or GS series. you're paying more for portability. I LOVE my GS60 ghost pro, but its not for everyone! For bang for buck look for something that is bulkier like the MSI GE and GP series. saves £300 by not needing the Mg-Li chassis!

Just to correct the above post, the Gigabyte is not plastic, its full Aluminium chassis. So is just better value, not due to use of cheaper materials as used in the GE and GP models from MSI.

Once again, Apologies for getting myself mixed up! My comments are down to this review:

"..the Gigabyte P35W v2, its 15.6-inch thin and light gaming notebook refreshed for Nvidia's latest mobile GPUs, the 800M series. Packed with a 1920 x 1080 IPS LCD panel, this mobile rig is home to the latest Intel Core i7 chips and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M with 6GB of GDDR5 video RAM."

"However, you're not looking at an all-aluminum unibody design here – that would cost you a considerable amount of cash. To keep the price point sane, Gigabyte didn't change much, if anything, about the P35W v2 on the outside. That means the arguably tacky plastic bezel and separate keyboard frame remain. You'll invariably feel some flex under these keys, but bright backlighting and some snappy travel help make up for that."

"However, it's crystal clear that the company's focus remains on cramming the most into its mobile rigs for your cash. An optical drive or three storage bays is, as far as I know, unheard of from a gaming notebook this thin."

Honestly, i would've bought one had i not won this MSI! (or if alienware had brought out a thinner laptop!)
