I wouldn't get 6Gb of memory, you're basically adding £400 to upgrade from 4Gb and I don't see it being worth it. Memory prices will fall so just buy it at a later date if you still think you need it.

The difference between the 4650 and 4670 is pretty minimal according to Notebookcheck so not much to separate them.

I see the main differences as:
The Studio 17 has a Bluray drive, but not a full HD screen.
The XPS 16 has the i7 processor and an HD screen, but just a standard DVD Drive

If bluray is unimportant to you then I'd get neither. You can get a Studio 17, i7 processor, 4Gb, DVD-RW, 4yr support for £800.
My only irritation is that they've stopped the optional upgrade to an HD screen on the Studio 17 which would make it much cheaper and pretty comparable to the XPS.

Is it not possible to get the screen upgrade over the phone??

Too be honest i just want something thats gonna let me watch my blu rays and play some of the top games! I never thought buying a laptop would be so difficult!

Is it not possible to just install a blu-ray drive myself at a later date if i purchased the XPS 16??

Also what if i just went with the 4gb of ram instead of the 6gb as it was an extra £400 just for an extra 2gb?

Could i add extra ram myself when needed??

You may be able to get the screen changed over the phone, the old screens were 1366x768, with an option to upgrade to 1920x1080. Now the standard is 1600x900.

You can change the DVD Drive yourself no problem, but you may have to buy one from Dell.

Again, RAM is easy to upgrade, but you can buy compatible memory from any number of places, you aren't tied to paying what Dell charge.

If you do phone Dell about the screen post the outcome, I'm very interested in the Studio 17's right now, and the 1080 screen would clinch it.

======
Just chatted with one of their sales advisors over their text chat and the 1920x1200 screen is not available on the New Studio 17. It is available on the old Studio 17, but the gfx card is diabolical and no i7 processors.
