Hi guys,

I don't really know anything when it comes to mobile hardware, so I was hoping i could tell you what it is I am looking for and you can point me in the right direction : )

I have a budget of around £750 (Give it or take maybe £50). I would love to get back into PC gaming however since I am a uni student now, I cannot really afford to have a desktop machine, mainly due to how much i will be moving around and travelling back and forth. I want a powerful gaming laptop that can run all of the current games on, at a smoother frame rate possible. I do care about how the games look, however I understand I won't be running Crysis 3 or any of the latest and greatest at max detail, but I do hope I can play a lot of them at high detail with smooth frames. I understand that powerful and inexpensive don't really go well together!

I don't know if what I am asking for is a big ask, but I do hope you guys can help me out, I have been looking around now for a while and I just can't see to find one, mainly because I have no idea about the graphics or processors as they are so different to what I am use to in desktop machines.

I hope you guys can help, thanks in advance : )

Ive just come from a gaming laptop to desktop (will give the reasons at the end)..

You can probably get something along the lines of a :

15"
i7 4700M Quad Core 2.4ghz
8gm Mem
GTX 765M
1T Sata Hdd

£750 on "another site that i cant post here"

I had a Clevo P170EM with 260gb SSD, 500gb sata, 3630m 2.4ghz, 7970m and 8gb memory, 17" - brought it from Overclockers for £1100 exactly 12 months ago. It was a great system, ran most games with high settings, no major heat issues if used with a proper laptop matt/stand (dont cover fans on your lap!) and all in all it was great.

But.. after 12 months i was wanting more. I was so used to getting a game, just sticking it at high and away i go. But as more up to date games came out i was finding myself constantly having to adjust settings, making sure temps were not too high and basically seeing fps falling as more and more games came out. I was craving more power but nowhere to really turn... a gpu upgrade (you can changes these boards nowadays) was going to be a wallet sapping £500, a cpu upgrade £300 which in essence was way over half the cost of what id paid only 12 months ago.

So i bit the bullet which i actually think will save me money in the long run. I just this month sold the laptop, got a measly £700 for it (£400 loss in 12 months).. which i guess as a depreciation rate could be fair. I then took that £700, added £100 and got myself an awesome desktop that doubled the benchmarks of the laptop. If I want to upgrade in 12 months (i shouldn't have to with this spec) i wont have to fork out the fees i would have on upgrading the laptop.

I do realise your be moving around a bit so desktop isnt going to be great but just have a think and be 100% sure its for you as you may (like i did) regret it a few months down the line.

For up to £800 you can get a laptop that will play games (lets use Crysis 3 as an example) on high settings. Wont be full ultra so you may want to tweak a couple of things. It will though still be eye candy. Good luck with whatever you do

Hi saintdefender

It might be a little out of your price range but have you not checked the GX60 that Gibbo has up at £899 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-129-MS

Radeon R9 M290X should run pretty much all of the latest games in 1080p. Comparing to Nvidia then it should perform between a GTX 770M and GTX 780M. When you see some of the prices on the Gigabyte ones that are more expensive they come with a GTX 765M. So bang for buck and all the features, this could be a really good option for you.
