gaming mac - a project too far?

For work I chose to use a Mac because of the excellent hardware, mostly in respect of the keyboard along with semi decent terminal integration and support for Bash ( mostly at least ); whilst still retaining the standard installer for most normal programs. However the operating system itself is dreadful, no snap to window, I hate the way it minimises things, finder is dreadful and the list goes on.

I am not sure why you would attempt to make a gaming machine out of such an average operating system which is known to perform poorly for games? As a regular user of all Windows / MacOSX and Linux in both server and desktop environments, it just seems completely nuts.
If I could get some magical software which means all my games work every time and have between 50-100% better performance I would jump right on it. In this case, that is basically Windows.

This post inspired me, I have a 5.1 6 core, 64GB and RX580 on the way! Not really into games but this will be ideal for me as a workstation. Actually a relatively cheap way to get a macOS environment.

I don’t know anything more specific but I’ve read that there’s ways of installing later versions of MacOS on unsupported Macs.
Yeah, I think there are patches and hacks but I think it’s getting into hackintosh territory at that point.
