Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster.

I wonder if any of you kind and knowledgeable folks would spec me up a gaming machine for around the £1200 mark please.

This will be for everything [ including monitor ] except for the mouse and keyboard.

Also I have heard from some gaming friends with some problems with using Vista over XP. Has anybody got any thoughts about what OS I should go with?

Many thanks to anyone who has any time to spec me.

That's everything you need. Bear in mind that the monitor is out of stock at the moment, so I'd wait until it's back in stock before ordering. Good luck. :D

Edit: As for Windows, I'd go with Vista as many of the problems have been ironed out and you'll have to upgrade at some point anyway. Also, you won't be able to enjoy any DX10 gaming! :D

I'd go with exactly what alex has specced, but i personally would spend more on the speakers. Go for either Logi Z4's, Z10's or Z2300. Apart from that, looks great :)

Many thanks to both of you for your prompt replies and thoughts. :D

Do you know how quick the turn-around is on new stock coming in?

Thanks again.

Shouldn't be more than a few days.

Hmmm im guessing by the time games start using quadcore youre going to want the latest chip out there anyway - I mean youd probably be able to pick up a quad core 6850 for about the same price the q6600 is now. For games though, and for someone like me who plays games that do not react well to overclocked systems, im thinking the extra 50 quid for a 6850 might be worth it.
