Hi There,

I have no idea about current good for money parts for a PC, I'd like to be able to run Battlefield 2 essentially.
So, if anyone could spec me a machine that can run Battlefield 2, for as cheap money as possible, that'd be great.

Thanks.

One of my old machine's ran it smoothly. AMD 4600+ CPU, Asus M2V Mobo, 8800 GTS (320MB). Im sure you could run it on much lower spec.

Just under £300 without the monitor, keyboard and mouse

Thanks guys, sorry, forgot about the budget. Its about 500, but I'd like it as cheap as possible. Looks like fuzecx has got a gooden.

Cheers.

The Seagate 7200.10 are slow these days unless you have a budget or plan to RAID them don't use it. (I have two..in RAID so I speak from experience).

As far as the rest of the system goes:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £129.99
(£149.49)
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4850 PCS Extreme 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail £119.99
(£137.99)
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £91.99
(£105.79)
Zalman ZM500-HP Heatpipe Cooled 500W Modular PSU £59.99
(£68.99)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) £43.99
(£50.59)
Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD6400AAKS) £42.99
(£49.44)
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) £31.99
(£36.79)

Total : £599.07

A bit over budget I know, but it's a nice system and you can always start swapping parts such as the cpu to an E7300 and the PSU to a cheaper one (Zalman are good though!) and things like that.

mattf's spec is the one to go for, just downgrade a couple of the parts slightly and it will come to around 500. fusecx's spec really isnt very good.

Asus GeForce 9800 GT HybridPower 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail£120.74
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £105.79
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail £68.99
Zalman ZM500-HP Heatpipe Cooled 500W Modular PSU £68.99
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) £50.59
Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD6400AAKS) £49.44
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) £36.79
Asus DRW-20B1ST 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Rewriter (Black) - OEM £19.54

Total : £520.86

Similar System to my previous example but with ideas for one closer to your budget. As others have said, fuzecx's system won't run the latest games too well and is mostly made up of older, weaker, overpriced parts.

Overclock the E5200 and you've got yourself a pretty decent gaming rig. The above should play any game at the highest details at 1680*1050 (except for crysis, but everyone has come to understand this :p)

You want to make sure the computer will last a while, I wouldn't build one to specifically play older games, as none of the newer games will stand a chance on a dated computer, and there will be newer games you'll want to try. You basically want to get the best your budget can go.

Ok. Sticking up for myself here. Bit rude how you guys replied. He asked for a cheap spec that would play BF2 and not crysis. I gave a spec which was not based on my own personal preferences. The parts may not be top of the range but they are as reliable as any of the others noted on this thread.

Thank you.

Sorry if it came across rude. I'm just saying that ro55o's spec is the best performance available for £500. Obviously to play BF2 he doesn't need that but he specified a budget of 500 so ro55so got the best price/performance parts within that budget.
